  • I wondered if there was a cheaper way to clean my dishwasher - other than not using it and washing up in the sink! Last time I paid £3.99 to put one of those one-use dishwasher cleaners through. Is there some other way to do it that uses store cupboard items???

soda crystals blocked mine the 1 time I used them, they collected in the filter in the pump and it was kaput.

We use these or this if it is really manky. The latter one is £15 for 10 doses from the engineer.

I occasionally run mine empty with a capful of bleach in the dispenser on a hot wash.

I buy the dishwasher cleaner bottles for 99p from home and bargain, a lot cheaper than finish!

As well as using the 99p Home Bargains d/w cleaner, I clean around the door seals and the corners of the door with my steam cleaner. You'd be amazed at what gets blasted out...yuk. The d/w cleaners don't get everywhere.

you can get ground-up soda crystals - in fact that's all I seem to see these days; haven't seen proper crystals for ages.

I usually use those or some vinegar with a hot wash.

I find a shower, shave and shampoo works wonders on my old-style dishwasher. I've just introduced him to Bulldog moisturiser and I bought him a load of 2 for £2 cotton teatowels from Matalan as well. ;)
  • Why use anything other than your regular dishwasher tablets? If they remove dried-on food, grease etc. from your plates, surely they do the same for the inside of your machine.

Save money, don't fall for the Finish marketing hype - your machine cleans it's self every time you use it!
