I used to think dishwashers needed cleaning constantly as my Mother's never seemed to produce clean plates, but I now live two doors down and have a very cheap Ikea dishwasher which brings out sparkly plates every time. I just check the filter a couple of times a week. I suspect it really depends on the variety of dishwasher!
  • I've done a quick search and not found anything on this. I need to give my dishwasher a bit of a clean, usually I'd buy a specific dishwasher cleaner and just use that but I thought maybe I'd ask on here first to see if I can make my own?! Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone made their own?

Once a month I put through an empty dishwasher, on the hottest wash, with the usual tablet; seems fine.

  • I use a small cup of vinegar with a little sqirt of washingup liquid( Put in half way through hot cycle), I do the same on a boilwash in the washingmachine, stops it smelling like a wet dog ( gone off soap deposits )

I second the use of vinegar, plus I also put in the empty halves when I squeeze a lemon - makes it smell lovely.

    Hi

Hope this is the correct place to post this question.

Please can anyone suggest a cheap alternative to the solutions available in the supermarket to clean dishwashers ?

Also please can anybody suggest a cheaper way to keep the dishwasher odour free as again the dishwasher fresheners are expensive and don't seem to last very long anymore!

    Thanks :)
