Eliza252 - Please can I have more information on how to book these Felucca's - other than the sites, sailing on the felucca's is top of my wish list.
Hello, we booked ours via an Egyptian Tour company that we found while in Egypt - I cant remember the name as it was over a year ago. The best thing to do is to shop around when you get there - I would recommend using the tour company for a day trip before you book the felucca venture - then you can work out how good they really are. If you use an Egyptian company you are much more likely to be able to haggle the price, we basically told them our budget and then didnt budge an inch over money - they modified their original ideas for us to fit our budget - I dont usually use tour companies at all, much prefer to find my own way, but I feel that you really miss out in Egypt if you dont have a tour guide that can tell you some real history about all the sites - our guides actually had degrees in Egyptian history - they knew so much!
- I will try and get hold of the friend that I travalled with in Egypt to see if she can remember the name of the company - unfortunately she is in Canada at the moment though! If I manage to find out I will PM you!I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!0 -
I have found the best price for Egypt to be https://www.discoveregypt.co.uk. They offer all different kinds of holidays and are excellent. I used them for a Nile cruise and week stay in Luxor in 2000 and when talking to other people on the boat discovered that we had paid less than them and they were only staying for one week!!!
Very pleased

Govenor - that is exactly what I would like to do. Who did you book your flights with from UK? Did you then book internal flights while in Egypt? Any info appreciated.0

Kuoni - indiviudel itinerary...Superb... loved the country...the sights were magnificent.
We consider ourselves 'travellers' but with 3 children have spent the last 4 or 5years on packages (kids clubs!!) Last year did Egypt with 3 kids aged 9, 6 and 4.
Flew to Cairo, then flew to Aswan, flight to Luxor, coach to Hurghada. Kuoni rep picks you up in private minibus and checks you in at airports. You do what you want, plenty of opporunity to explore and we felt like travellers again.
if you want to know more, hotels, sights etc PM me.0 -
All the best Becs. I've travelled the world over, but seeing the pyramids at Giza and the Tutenkamen exhibition some 25 years ago still ranks as one of my best trips and, as far as I'm concerned, a must see. BTW congrats to your lads on reaching the top flight again.0

I've been to Egypt several times now, and always had a great experience. My golden rule is to book the best quality hotel possible - and there are some very good hotels reasonably cheap. I've done packages with Kuoni and Longwood holidays - both very good specialist tour operators.
Luxor is a good base for plenty of sightseeing - and it can all be done independantly quite easily at your own pace. Walk/taxi or carriage ride to Karnak and Luxor temple, catch the passenger ferry across the river and barter with a taxi driver for a cheap days sightseeing around valley of the kings, valley of the queens, queen hatseheptsuts temple etc.
Whilst Im not a great fan of cruises generally, a cruise up the Nile is a great experience, if on a good boat. Yes, it's a bit packaged and touristy, but sitting in the sun on the deck as you glide upriver is pure magic. The daily trips can be interesting, if just to listen to the tales of the egyptologist guides.
My experience of Egypt has only been marred by getting quite ill on the budget cruise - it's a risk wherever you go, but hence I try and only do the quality hotels now.0 -
            Becs
We did exactly the itinerary you are looking at on our honeymoon last year. We stayed at the Mena House Oberoi in Cairo for 3 nights which was fabulous - a peaceful haven next to the Pyramids and we were upgraded to a room in the Old Palace. We then went to Luxor for 3 nights and stayed in the Sheraton. There is heaps to do in Luxor and we didn't really have enough time, I would really recommend a balloon ride at dawn though, it was the highlight of our honeymoon. We went with Kuoni and becuase we were on our honeymoon the balloon ride for both of us was £70, a total bargain. We then went to Sharm El Sheik for 10 days and stayed at the Sonesta Beach Club which was nice but not as special as the other hotels we stayed at. If we could go back we would have done more nights in Luxor, less in Sharm and stayed at the Four Seasons in Sharm, which was more expensive but looked fantastic.
As I said we went with Kuoni who were really good, we had excellent guides on our excursions and were upgraded everywhere we went. We had a fab time and are planning on going back to Egypt to celebrate our ten year anniversary there one day!!
HTH, let me know if you have any questions.0 -
Thanks very much for the additional help.
However there has been a change since the original thread was posted. Due to the recent bomings, my other half felt really uncomfortable going to Egypt. As it's a special holiday, we decided we'd look for another destination, so we're off to Mexico instead.
Hopefully we'll do Egypt another time, as I'd still like to go one day. Here I go again on my own....0
