Three inTouch app - any good?

I'm thinking of ditching my landline as I rarely use it but mobile reception at home can be patchy with all networks so I am looking at ways around this. One option is a 3 payg sim using the inTouch app, is the app reliable enough to have a clear conversation? I'm currently with tesco mobile and would probably keep this contract but have a spare phone sitting at home with the 3 sim in to use when needed, eg for my mum to use when she's here as she watches the kids while I'm at work.

I'm a low user and there's always loads of my allowances left every month so the 321 sim might even work out cheaper for me but last time I tried a 3 sim (when ovivo went bust so not that long ago) the reception was poor. Could be an option though if the feedback for the app is good.

It uses your wifi to make the connection, so won't you still need your landline for the internet? Unless you are with Virgin of course.

Assuming you have full wifi bars the In Touch call quality is fine and incoming calls to your mobile number ring within the app. But the app is separarate from the 3G phone side so separate call and text logs. It's disappointing that proper ios 8 wifi calling, as is apparently offered by EE, which means you don't even see an app, has not been taken up by Three.

The app works fine, but is a little basic (on the iPhone you can't set your own ringtone or text tone).

The app only works with iOS and Android IIRC, so is your spare phone actually compatible?

Integrated wifi calling on iOS is coming to Three, from what I've heard they aren't that far behind EE in their plans to launch it.

  • Yes I have Virgin broadband, and the most up to date spare phones I have are an S3 and an iPhone 3GS so I assume one of those will work ok?

That's quite interesting, would be very useful to me. The app sounds a bit clunky to use on my main phone but should be fine for the one I'll only use at home.

I'd be interested in trying their application myself, but it is not supported on phones which have been rooted, which includes the cheap dual SIM Android phone I bought.

My son uses Three inTouch because he has a weak 3 signal in his flat. He uses it over Virgin Cable Broadband. It does work but is a bit echoey. He rang me the other night and my own speech was being echoed back to me.

My sentiments entirely - I have it on my phone but have it set to 'off' as most of the time, our poor mobile signal is better than the rubbish and echoing app sound. (we have a 2MB internet speed)
The texting bit works well BUT it uses it's own app rather that integrating with the 'built in' app on my phone

The only time I do use it is if I'm somewhere with no mobile signal but with wi-fi, which ain't often.

All in all, it *could* be a whole lot better, and hasn't been updated since it's rushed release in the summer.

J B says it all. Buck up, lazy Three!
  • The app could be signifficantly better ( although ive not had the need to use it much so far) however if it falls between no signal or the in touch app then the app is the better option.
As for the echo i think this is down to the fact that the three in touch app uses SIP/VOIP and the echo is something to do with some advanced settings that you need to tweak - these settings are unavailable on the three app.
