Ceiling came down on my sleeping son

First time posting so please be gentle !
Asking for advice on this forum - my son is in rented student accommodation (through an agency called Home Lets) in Brighton sharing with 4 others, the house isn't up to much, some stair spindles are stuck together with sealant, the settee has foam exposed arms, generally poor upkeep of house, however a couple of weeks ago, whilst my son was asleep in his room, the ceiling fell in on him whilst he was asleep. He was very shook up by this, it has affected his asthma quite bad and has had to sleep in the living room for 2 weeks while the landlord gets repairs done.
Should I put in a compensation claim against the landlord/agency ?

Oddly enough, I had the same thing happen to me when I was a student.
Compensation? As it's your first post, I'll be gentle and say nothing.0 -
Thanks Gloomendoom, I'll act on it first thing tomorrow.0

Act on what?0 -
Compensation is there for putting the person in the same financial situation as though it had not happened.
So what has cost your son finanically because of this incident?0 -
4" cut to cheek, badly bruised stomach, damaged laptop, extensive visits to launderette, repeat prescriptions for inhalers because of asthma attacks due to dust.0

Oh how awful. If I were you, I would persue some kind of action, hope your son is OKWith love, POSR0

Of course you should make a complaint and ask them to pay for any damage caused.ally.0

Similar happened to one of my sons housemates and he had to replace a lot of bedding as the dust simply wasn't washing out, also not advisable to sleep in fiber glass. He may find it really difficult to get any fiber glass out of the carpet so make sure it's done properly by landlord/builders.
Does his contract cover the whole house or the communal areas and his bedroom? Really landlord needs to at least provide a bed in the living room while not disturbing the other tenants use, if he is unable to do so landlord needs to provide alternative accommodation.0 -
Your poor son!
Hope he gets over the shock and recovers before too long! xxxHere dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.
