Vodafone declined my contract
After doing lots of research and Vodafone having the best deal I signed up to a 24 month contract. Vodafone text me today to tell me that they've declined my contract due to my credit rating.
I have had a mobile phone contract with T-mobile for 15+ years, and have a mortgage, BT phone line and various other things connected to the house that I pay by direct debit and have never not paid my bills on time, so I'm a little surprised I've been declined.
I've just signed up to Equifax to check my credit rating which is 'good' at 450+.
Any ideas?

First of all, Equifax isn't the only CRA. Are you sure that Vodafone use (only) them?
Secondly, their 'rating' is meaningless as lenders use the raw data. A small discrepancy between what you supplied Voda with and what they get from the CRA can make a big difference. Check the file, not the 'rating'. Are you on the Electoral Roll? If everything is as fine as you say, why the 'rating' is 'good' , not 'excellent'?0 -
Vodafone also use Experian and Call Credit according to their site. They also say they check your details with the electoral roll, so if you are not on there it could cause a problem.

Many might say you have had a lucky escape. All i see on the first page of this forum is vodafone complaints of various sorts. Your first mistake was putting the 'best deal' as you say above everything else.0

good network service, but poor customer service i foundDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

To be fair a quick google of all the mobile operators reveals a multitude of complaints and "one star" ratings. So who do you actually go with?
People seem keen to late bad problems but I never see anyone praising the operators on here much.
I am with Three and see complaints on here and other websites but I think they are fine and have so far had no problems after being with them 3 years. Prior to that I was with Vodafone and again no problems and before that T-Mobile. No problems again.0 -
Thanks for your replies. I am on the electoral role. Vodafone suggested I check my credit rating.
I don't really know how to go from good to excellent, I'm not aware of anything that would preclude me from getting a new contract and I would have been happy to stay with t-mobile who I've been with for 16+ years, but they were unable to match Vodafone and were not at all bothered about retaining my custom.
Is it worth contacting Vodafone and attempting to find out how they came to this decision?0 -
It's always worth asking, but don't hold up too much hope you'll get very far. Suppliers rarely provide much help and won't tell you why the credit check failed. However, there's no harm in probing on that basis. Usually the credit department also won't speak directly with a customer.0
