Sky use a non-standard MTU rate, so you need this along with your username and password or your non-Sky replacement won't work.Never Knowingly Understood.

Thank you for all your suggestions and help.
Popped round last night as i remembered i had an old router in the house that i was certain i hadnt thrown away. I had thrown it away but found the box and the plug for it. All looked very similar to the sky plug so plugged it into the router and we have lights!
Have left it for my parents to plug it all back in but may have saved them a few £££0 -

No they won't but it's easily found on google
Sky don't support third party routers
That said free replacements aren't hard to come by with SkyI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

It will- the software for them to work was downloaded to them when all o2 customers migrated to Sky.
When it dies you'll get given a Sky hub howeverI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Unless it has changed, Sky don't support 3rd party routers, and indeed tie your connection to the particular one they've supplied you.
You may be able to obtain a used one and get them to enable it on your line.
Depending upon your location in the country, you might be able to get one from someone who has left Sky (eg. I've got one on my desk, having moved to EE).0 -
you should ring your DNO first (electric distribution company) and claim for the damaged equipment caused by the fault..
I changed my sky router this week as it kept cutting off.. but as it was working I was able to rip the username and pword out of it.. the TDLINK one i bought just asked for my ISP on setup then i entered the username and pword and it was up and running in minutes...0 -
