Its a shame the wages for HGV drivers in Hull area are the same as they were in 2001. Its only once you start getting towards York and Goole that they improve.

My uncle is a tanker driver (I think he works for Conoco) and he grosses over £50k a year with overtime, not all drivers are badly paid.

Quite stressful though I imagine having 40 tons of petrol sat behind you!

Fuel tanker and car transporter drivers are the only ones making worthwhile money.

It must be stressful trying to reverse huge trailers down narrow lanes and around tight bends etc when making deliveries.

Nah, you get used to it after a while. Its when you're trying to reverse into a place and cars are driving round the back of you to the point of actually going into the premises that it gets stressful especially when they come from your blindside so you only see them as they emerge from the back of the trailer.

He'll also have an ADR certificate (Dangerous Goods) around about another 30 hrs training followed by a multi-choice exam, renewable every five years. Good news is the ADR training counts towards the drivers CPC, you only have to do one more training session to get the CPC
