Electricity at night

Hi
To cut a long story short, 18 months ago we purchased a 2 bed house and took out the old storage heaters to be replaced with central heating
We were going to switch from our old economy 7 meter to a standard meter however when looking at usage, we were using 80% at night, which I thought was strange.
Since then, we've had a new digital meter fitted but the same story. Around 80% is being used in the night rate, which to me cannot be right.
We are both at work 8-6 and economy 7 hours are 1am-8am.
The only appliance that goes on in addition to the usual phone chargers and fridge etc, is the washing machine.
EDF are insisting R1 is the night rate and R2 is the day rate.
Can I be missing something here?

The most likely explanation is that the day and night rates are the wrong way round. Either the meter is being read wrong, or it's been wired wrong.
Just a quick check though, do you have an immersion heater wired to the E7 output?
If you insist, then EDF are obliged to send out somebody out to look at the meter. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I'd keep quiet if I were you

As long as the numbers for R1 and R2 match those on your bill I'd keep schtum. It's not your problem. I'd delete this thread too seeing as you have posted on the internet with your real name.0

You can check if the meter has been wired the wrong way round by plugging in a high powered device for a couple of minutes and checking which rate has incremented on the meter.0

SE had reversed my meter readings for several years before I realised and got them eventually to correct it. I had to check and complain every time they read the meter until thy sorted it. It wasn't a wiring problem but software I think.0
