London Comic Con by tube

Hi! I'm due to go to London Comic Con in the ExCel centre on Sunday.

I'm coming from Paddington, and the instructions tell me to go to Baker Street, then change to the Jubilee Line to Canning Town, then get the DLR to Custom House. Does that sound sensible?

I'm a bit worried about the DLR stage - can anyone tell me if it's likely to be completely overcrowded, or do they run more shuttles so that it's not too bad?

It will be fine... I use the DLR from Canning Town at rush hour every now and again and can even get a seat! Even if you can't it's only 1 or 2 stops and will take about 5 mins.

PS: The Excel centre is about a 15 min walk from Canning town (it's less than a mile).

Thank you! We'll walk if we have to, but it's going to be a long day so I'm trying to keep things as easy as possible.

    No.

Take the Circle Line direct from Paddington to Tower Hill, walk out of Tower Hill, round the corner 50 metres or so to Tower Gateway, and get on the DLR.

    Look at the tube map.

I did see that recommended somewhere when I was looking around to find a route. Is the DLR reliable and quick enough compared to the tube? The other advantage would be that we'd already be on the train at Canning Town so we wouldn't have to try to get on with everyone else going to the event.

There is a partial closure on the Circle Line this weekend including Tower Hill station for engineering works, so I would suggest going via the original route.

I don't think you'll have any problems with the DLR, you might have to stand but they're frequent (every 5 minutes).

It's not quite as frequent, every 3-5 mins as opposed to every 2-3 mins in the tube, but nowhere near as busy.

Thank you! If there are engineering works on the Circle Line this weekend I guess that rules that route out as an option, but I will keep it in mind for another time.

Why would you think it wouldn't be reliable? It's far younger than the majority of the tube network.

Note that the DLR doesn't have barriers like the rest of the tube. If using an Oyster card or similar, you need to look for the machine to tap in on entry and tap out on exit.

yeah its fine... just be weary you do need to have an oyster card.

dont worry it gets a little busy but its fine otherwise. from Canning town it takes less than 10 minutes so dont worry.

I live quite close and go every year and love it.

Thank you! But we won't have oyster cards as such, but rail tickets with zone 1-6 travelcards which I think should be OK?
