Being on the Electoral Role reduced my credit score?

Firstly, I am registered on the electoral role and have been for many years. This was confirmed on my Noddle credit report.

I signed up yesterday to Equifax and noticed that it said I was not on the electoral role. I then realised that my registered primary address was slightly wrong so probably didn't match up with the electoral roll address.

I phoned them up and they agreed something was not quite right and subsequently corrected the address error which then corrected the electoral data.

Now that the credit file reports and acknowledges that I'm on the electoral role, my score immediately dropped by over 100 points.
Any reasons why?

Because the score is irrelevant. Ignore it. You're fine.

The so called "credit score" is largely meaningless. Individual lenders use then own formula based on the raw data from agencies like Equifax. Ignore the figure given by Equifax or any other credit reference agency.

Do your bank/credit card/etc addresses match the electoral role one?

You are right! The addresses don't tie up, they are all variations of the same address. I phoned them us and they are going to instruct all my creditors to amend my address entries to match my electoral role address.

    Good luck with that !

Can't see any lender amending an address without speaking to you first.

the amendments are very minor. The electoral role address is correct and has been for over 5 years so that is the address they should all be using?

You would be well advised to write to each of your financial institutions to correct any errors.

Because it's a change. Now that this is visible other matters may now become connected.

You need to view this generically rather than personally.

Lenders will use the address YOU provide them with. They don't check that addresses are in the correct format on the electoral roll. They can't change an address on an electoral roll entry.

To change the address with the lenders you should contact them and make sure they're all using the same format as the electoral roll.

When i do manual searches i always check different formats of an address anyway. Especially when there is a house name or flat number. Electronic searches will obviously only check whats given.
