How long do I wait for delivery (ebay?)

I ordered an item on ebay on 15th oct that should have been here by the 20th. I have not received it so asked the seller to issue another, next day delivery, as it is needed tomorrow. They refused so I then asked for a refund (as I've now had to sort an alternative) which has also been refused. Am I entitled to a refund? I don't want to argue the point if I'm not. Tia.

It does rather depend on the postal service used as to whether its late or not. Also what time frame did the seller have on their listing?
Tbf the estimates ebay give are optomistic to say the least.
If it was sent Rm 2nd class last thursday i would only start to worry if it wasnt here by the weekend. And even them wouldnt raise the issue with the seller until the following week.0 -
I agree with Alykatz , the ebay estimated delivery times are wildly optimistic - i have next working day dispatch and 2nd class and they estimate receipt 2 -3 days after payment. If this was just sent 1st or 2nd class I wouldn't be harrassing the seller, I would just be a bit patient. You would get a refund, assuming this is an untracked item but you can't start the claim until after the latest estimated dispatch time and seller has 8 days to respond. It would be very unfair though to give seller a defect for a postal issue.
However, if you paid for guaranteed delivery, ie seller offered special- then I would go back to seller and ask again for a tracking number and explain item is too late and you will be refusing it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It was ordered on 15th, they aim for next day dispatch 2nd class, ebay estimated delivery for the 20-21st. Which isn't unreasonable if it was posted on the 16th?
I don't want to give them a defect will that happen automatically if I raise it with ebay?0 -

Personally I think that ebay estimate is unreasonable.
Item purchased on Thursday 16th, dispatches on the 17th which was a Friday. 2nd class can easily take 4-6 days so I would expect item tomorrow or Friday.
As it is past the ebay estimate you can technically open a case now- but that won't get you your money back instantly and if I was your seller I would hold out to the last possible moment to refund on the basis the case gave me a defect anyway and if you wanted something urgently then either negotiate paying extra for a guaranteed postal service or buy from someone like Amazon using their Prime service.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you need an item by a particular date, pay for a guaranteed service. Whilst most RM stuff arrives within their estimates, they are just estimates.0

As I already stated, the item was purchased on the 15th and dispatched on the 16th. Six Royal Mail working days later it's still not here.0

Which is not unusual, if this was something you were selling then RM would not consider it lost until after 15 working days (so 3 weeks).
Obviously though that is not your problem, that is for the poor seller to deal with.
As has been said, you can open a case, but that still won't get you your money back straight away. it would probably be better to wait a little and work with the seller and if perhaps it hasn't arrived by the weekend then ask outright for a refund. That might still be quicker than just going for a INR claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I don't think it's unreasonable that I didn't pay for guaranteed delivery for an item I ordered a week before needed.
However, points taken on board and I'll see if the item arrives tomorrow or Friday.
Thank you.0 -
