My local council are a bunch of idiots.

I got married 20 months ago, and my wife moved into what was then my home, and as required by Law, I informed our local Council that she was now resident. For her own reasons, she decided that she wanted to pay all bills by direct Debit from her bank account, so she completed a DD mandate for Council Tax with Adur District…

The whole thing with Direct Debits is why I use a cheque to pay my Council Tax and take it in person to the payment office. Simple. For a little extra effort, I am 99% guaranteed that they will not mess the payment up.

While I agree with you about councils OP, you really are better sorting payment out now and arguing with them about their mistakes later. That's my opinion anyway.
