Is the new iOS for I-thingies now safe to use?

For accidental reasons I never installed the new iOS 8 on my I-pad 2 last month. But then I read that may have been a good move not to make, and people who did have lots of problems, like losing stuff or the device is slowed down.
Simple question: has it been put right, is it now safe to install? Is it best to install?

8.1 is better than 8.0 on ipad 3 (YouTube playback is more reliable in Safari/YT app)
Safari is still icky (touch sensitivity and copying)0 -

Well, the phrase "update has been updated" is a little vague in meaning.
Given iOS 8 only came out on the 17th September and since then we have had 3 updates, 8.0.1, 8.0.2 and 8.1
The first two were maintenance patches to deal with defects but 8.1 was always planned as it enables Apple Pay (in the USA at least). With 8.1 only coming out 2 days ago its a little soon for any bug defects to be fixed - not that I've read any rumours of new defects in 8.1
Personally have installed all 4 versions of iOS 8 on both an iPad 3 and iPhone 6 with no problems on any of them
Now OS X 10.10 on my MBA is a whole nother story but suspect it is more to do with the laptop only just meeting the requirements to run it0 -
I have it on my iPad 4. No problems at all.
Haven't got it on my phone yet.0 -
people who did have lots of problems, like losing stuff
Same BS every single time any company releases a software update.
These are the same people that spend ages moaning/complaining when all of their stuff is lost due to install errors, but haven't got enough brain power to backup all of this 'important' stuff before doing a major OS update.
Make a backup! Then you won't loose anything.0 -
Ios 8.0 on an ipad 2 made mine almost unuseable, each update was an improvement, 8.1 appears to have fixed most of the problems, but some ad heavy websites still cause problems.0
