Is the new iOS for I-thingies now safe to use?

For accidental reasons I never installed the new iOS 8 on my I-pad 2 last month. But then I read that may have been a good move not to make, and people who did have lots of problems, like losing stuff or the device is slowed down. Simple question: has it been put right, is it now safe to install? Is it best to install?

iOS 8.1 is much more stable than iOS 8.0 and 8.0.2.

My iPad rMini is performing much more smoothly (there are some issues with Safari still but it's better than it was.)
