I'm too hot! OH too cold!

So I'm on tamoxifen for BC. If you search my posts you can read all about it. I finished treatment about 16 months ago.

Anyway OH & I bought a house in May & finally moved in together after 13 years (2 years married next week) and this is our first winter living together. We have GC & a woodburner. Problem is my tamoxiflushes :o I really suffer it goes above 18° Holiday in Rhodes really was a bundle of fun :\

Now its getting cooler I'm loving the weather, but OH keeps putting the heat on to take the chill off in the morning. Result is that I'm hot & sweaty straight after my shower & putting make up is no fun at all!!!

DS (14) hates the heat as well & has his window open most of the day when he's hom . I wait until OH is asleep and then open the bedroom window. Lol.

What can I do? I never had the thermostat over 15 in my old house whereas OH had his flat set up like a greenhouse . I keep turning the thermostat down from 25 here :rotfl:

Just wait for the next gas bill, you may all compromise at 21c .

No need to wait. OH has a spreadsheet that works out all the kWh etc and takes weekly readings. We're spending about £1 a day on gas atm. Everything apart from heating & water is electric.

That's good going for gas to get to 25c and more, my standing charge is 32p/day, I use about £3day in the winter

What does your OH say about it? Will he compromise?

I'm the one who feels the cold in our house. On the basis that OH, the children and the lodger all hate being too hot our heating is set low and I wear jumpers/cardis.

I figure they can't layer up to get to their ideal temp whereas I can so that is the fairest way to be. It's also the reason OH and I share a bed, but have our own duvets - I wrap up like a Mummy in my winter duvet and he's still got his paper thin summer one on.

I can see you're poles part here. 15c is way too cold for most people but on the other had 25c is way too hot.

You'll have to talk and reach a comfortable compromise!

25c is not 'taking the chill off', it a bloody furnace, so how about asking if you can try say 20c to start, with him wearing an extra later and you wearing less

I know what you mean about the shower, I hate that too, so I usually open the bedroom window before I get in the shower so it's nice and cool when I get out.

At night do you have a small window you can leave open? We have a small top one that is open 24/7 365, it's good to have a flow of fresh air going through, that might stop the build up of heat during the evening.

    25!

That's very hot, considering it's been quite warm until yesterday! 21 should do?

25 is higher than is recommended for elderly & immobile people

Could you compromise at 20 degrees?

I like to be cold & OH likes to be warm so he always hogs the quilt & i've always got one leg hanging out to cool down.
We have a low tog quilt & he has throws on top.

Well, before even sitting down and talking can ds be helped? Is there a TRV on his rad and can it be turned off.....ambient heat from Rest of the house sounds like it would be enough for him at least for now.

If your oh is used to it hot it will take a while for him to acclimatise, but its not healthy sort of temps and you are suffering, as is ds, so....he's going to have to. Can you buy him some thermal vests. ( silk ones are less bulky feeling) and comfortable and sexy loungewear type stuff to wear at home that will keep him warm while you slip into something a little more comfortable.........for evenings together this might help him adjust ;)

Yes, we do this in our son's room, it has to be freezing before he has his radiator on. You don't even need a TRV to do it, just close the valve.

Me and OH are like this. Buy him some nice warm pyjamas and perhaps a nice insulating jumper for during the day perhaps. We have a tower fan that when I get warm at home I sit in the corner of the sofa and have it pointing only at me. Not very MSE I suppose, but we never have arguments about temperature any more!
