If you write a "without prejudice" letter offering some money (or other compromise), it explicitly says "I'm doing this only to make you go away, and if you don't accept and it goes to court, this is in no way an admission of liability".
  • Ahhh. Thanks. Well where does 'fault' lye then? When I come to renew my policy would I have had a fault accident or a non fault accident?

I know when I worked for a garage and someone hit me I ended up with a few quid in my pocket, imaginary hire car, extra work done etc :)

Imaginary witnesses, inflated claims, nice. The insurance system does suck at times but no excuse for this kind of activity, we all end up paying.

    Non-fault

"Fault" from an insurers perspective is defined generally by if they have a net outlay at the end of a claim. As they'd have been repaid its a non-fault claim. Obviously there can be exceptions when complaints are involved or there are some marketing promotions like the "uninsured driver promise"

On the flipside if your car is vandalised or involved in a hit and run where the perpetrators arent caught then both of these are fault claims because your insurer cannot recover their outlay (subject to any marketing message/ promises)

Not really as without being in the trade, I wouldn't have got prices so cheap, so price was no more than joe bloggs would have paid.
Only difference was I got more done for that amount, and a few quid in my pocket.

Is it just me, or does that sound awfully like fraud?

Dunno, claim amount was no more than if I'd gone to a bodyshop I didn't know.
Was 15 years ago, hopefully I'm in the clear.

Do you think my IP address is being tracked as we speak?
