flight compensation

I booked a holiday to the U.S in 2007 and the flight was delayed overnight because of a mechanical fault with the aircraft. I have contacted Expedia who i booked through to try to retrieve flight details etc and they have no record of me as they say they do not have records that go back that far. I am at a loss how to continue to try to claim compensation now, and would be grateful for any help as apart from the stamp in my passport to show that i went on that holiday i have no other evidence and do not know where to begin to try to get help.

You can go at most 6 years back to claim for compensation. And in your case it is crossed.0 -

This is not actually correct austin9658. The law in place (261/2004) allows for claims up to 2005 (ie 9 years ago) HOWEVER if (as likely) the airline refuse your claim the only recourse is to take court action. In the UK courts will only hear cases going back - up to - 6 years however different countries have different time limitations on the period in which to enact court action.
In addition airlines have been known to pay out a claim (unlikely I know) where, say in England, the claim is for a delay over 6 years ago. richardw provides a more specific reply without mentioning the word claim!0 -

What does it mean then? If you ask for compensation to airlines that was delayed or cancelled 6 years ago definitely airlines refuse the claim who wants to pay out for the which was happened 6 years ago. And after rejection from the airlines you can't take legal action because there is rule of 6 years. So clearly what is the result; you cant go back 6 years to claim for flight compensation0 -

It's an EU regulation, the Statute of Limitations varies throughout the EU, in the UK it is six years.
Move to an EU country with a longer SoL and you can still bring a claim against the airline concerned0 -
