Cost of going from multi fuel stoved fired heating to mains gas heating?

Hi,
We are looking at buying a house that currently isn't connected to mains gas and has the central heating and hot water running off the multi fuel stove. Could anybody tell me if I'm right in thinking its a big and expensive job to get the system changed to be mains gas connected and run with a combi boiler?
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks

Are there gas mains laid down your road? If the nearest gas mains are more than a few yards away then mains gas won't be an option.
If gas mains are accessible, then I wouldn't imagine it will be a huge job and will probably pay for itself over a few years due to the relative low cost of mains gas. It will be a few thousand to have the mains extended to your property (depending on the distance of pipe work to be laid) and have a new supply installed, plus then probably around £4000 to have a new combi boiler installed and connected to the existing pipework.
We recently had our heating changed to a new fuel and new boiler in a different location and the quote was £4500 to change to a new combi boiler or £4100 to change to a new system boiler connected to existing hot water tank.Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! It depends how much work is involved in running the supply from the main to where you need the supply/meter.
I recently had a quote for running a gas supply up the drive from the main on the road to a new build. The quote was £10,000, mostly for digging trenches and backfilling. It will be cheaper to go with an air source heat pump.
Edit: Air source heat pumps can be appropriate for new builds where underfloor heating is designed in from scratch. The technology can be fraught with problems if retrofitted to older, less well insulated homes.0 -
Why go for gas, stick to renewables. Heat pumps can be used in any property if designed well, I have one in my 200+ year old house and have no problems with it because it was designed well.
Or check out biomass as well, which ever renewables you choose they will qualify for RHI which should cover the capital cost in about 5-7 years"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0
