  • Hi all..

I have been using 18185..(by direct debit).. 1p sms to india & rest of the world also & they have been brilliant but for some reason since a week i was not able to log in (maybe coz i tried to add new no's & delete some old ones)..so i send an email to the customer services and they replied :

" Unfortunately you are unable to use this service through your existing telephone numbers any longer. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused but it is out of our hands. "

what does this mean ?..they havent said anything further ? or no explaination ? so i tried signig up to 18866.com...it says card no. not valid or even for DD it says the number is not valid ?... what cud be the problem ?...i have alwz alwz paid them by DD and never the DD has been declined...

I am still using 18185b for nearly all my calls, no problems and their rates are still v good. However, please note that the SMS service is no longer 1p to UK and other countries but typically 4 or 5p depending which country. So check if rate is still good for you.

All the problems noted by other users would appear to be user error e.g. not registering mobile and then selecting that as the number from which SMS is 'sent'.

i used to use 18866 for occasional txting, but this seems to have stopped recently. Just cannot find the relevant links. Is it just me?
  • no, i noticed too, i've been using 18185 (the other Connect site) to send texts and the link also disappeared. They should have warned their customers!
anyone knows of any other site to send sms for as little as that 3p. or less ? (allowing you to receive replies back to your mobile, O2 for example doesn't)

    Hiya
I just found out that the text function has disappeared on all of the cheap prefix sites (18185,1899,18866). They must have cottoned on that some folks were only using it for texting as I did for the past year.:money::mad::mad::mad:
Not sure where you can find cheap or even free texting. I am with O2 and can send about 10 free ones online as a PAYG customer.
Let everyone know if there is any other sites that can do what they used to by providing cheaper texting. Ta greatly!

I am still using Poivy (same parent company as 18866) to send texts. It will allow return texts to be sent to any mobile you can verify as being yours. UK texts are 4.1p each (including VAT)

Look on here for services offered by the same parent company:

It will give you the phone call rates but not, unfortunately, the SMS rates. Look on the corresponding websites and you may get lucky and find a cheaper SMS provider.
