Loulou41,
I followed the advice provided in the link by Edinburghlass. Once you have made a phone call from your mobile phone via the 18185 access number, the mobile number will appear in the caller ID drop down menu too. It worked for me. Thanks to Edinburghlass for pointing me in the right direction.0 -
Just copying this onto this thread too......"Not quite sure why, and I have e-mailed them my query, but at certain times, the texts can't be sent...anyone else experience this?
I have only registered my mobile number.
Anyone recommend a more reliable texting cheapo system?0 -

It is very reliable.....and what cheap as well!
Their sister company Voipdiscount offers FREE texts to certain destinations including India. You do need to buy some credit though.

Beware, I send about 10 texts per day using this service. I recently found that my text rates have gone up to 6p. I questioned this and they referred to a "fair use" policy. I am amazed that my girlfriend and I are being penalised for being good customers. It's not as if it's a "all you can eat" deal. You pay for each text you send. has anyone else experience this?
This is their response to my question:
Dear Customer,
You will be billed by the normal tariff if your limit does not exceed.
Should you exceed our FUP you will be charged normal rates for your sms.
"Fair use policy (FUP)" what does that mean?
We offer cheap calls and text messages to various destinations. If you make ordinary use of our services you will generally not be confronted with our Fair Use Policy; we reserve the right however to limit these calls and text messages if excessive or fraudulent use is suspected. Should you exceed our Fair Use Policy limit you will be charged normal rates for your calls.
Kind regards,
Customer service0 -
Hi,

Used them for quite some time, been a customer of this group, 18866, 1899 and 18185 for about 4 years. Not had any real issues.
You'll find this group has been recommended on here quite often over the years. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Hi
The website 18185 has already been mentioned on some of the MoneySaving Expert guides as a source of cheap telecomms and I have used them for calling 0845 and premium rate numbers(when I have to). They have now launched a cheap rate text service. National and many intenational destinations for only 1p.

The rates, especially the international ones look very cheap. I have used them myself for national texts and it works. basically you join, register an account and a debit/card and can register your home phone and a mobile. You send the texts from inside your account(not your mobile).
I have no affiliation with 18185 and am a private individual:T0
