Everest or Rockdoor

I have just had Everest salesman quoting me for 2x external doors plus one side light plus 2x fan lights for £7,655 (inc VAT). I almost fell of my chair. I asked him how Everest compares with Rockdoor and he gave me all the science stuff plus all about the guarantees etc. I must admit I did like the fact that Everest does the installation so you can't have one company (i.e. manufacturer) blaming the other (ie. installer) and vice versa. Other than this point he also told me that Everest makes the air gap at 25mm compared with 10mm for Rockdoor and that Everest door contains Argon gas (don't even know what this meant to achieve) and that their doors are 700mm wide rather than only 40mm for Rockdoor and that their whole frame contains galvanised steel compared with Rockdoors only in places. Now I am no expert and it all sounds very good but IS IT WORTH IT???

I have a Rockdoor guy coming over shortly so I will ask him all of the above but I am pretty sure the price won't be anywhere near £7,655. Having looked at the Rockdoor supplier's website it would seem nearer £4k mark (I'll know more in an hour).

Anybody has any thoughts on this? Is Everest really such a superior product?

thanks.

Everest are a cr-p company, peddling high pressure BS, with sales people who are ignorant of anything technical and interested in only one thing - namely how much commission can be shafted out of the customer. Avoid them like the plague.

I was a rep for Everest years ago. I'd never been a salesman before. They told us the stuff we were selling was by far superior to anything else on the market, and i believed it. If anyone mentioned price, the way we were told to explain it was if someone was going to buy a car they'd always from choice pick a Bmw before buying a Lada. And it's exactly the same with double glazing.
All these years later i still think it's a premium product if you can afford it. But when i got my house done i went to a small local firm. That's where you'll get the best deal. Ask around who your neighbours used.

We had a door and several different sized windows fitted by Everest. They were not particularly cheap but we have absolutely no complaint about the quality of the windows and door. Or about the service, which was excellent in every way.

I also had called Everest 1 month back and got a quote for £3900 for 1 door. I was than told that if I pay a deposit now , they have something called today's price which will be £2600 and if I make my decision within 7 days it will be £3400.
When I asked why can i not get the cheaper price in the next couple of days I was given load of BS that their system wont allow and Everest thinks about customers and hence gives them the cheapest price on the day of visit.

I decided against it and went with Solidor which would be fitted next week.

I must say the Everest salesman didn't try all that rubbish about sign now to get a better price.

Anyway, the rockdoor salesman has been and quoted £1300 per door inc installation which is more reasonable. So it's a definite 'no' to Everest from us. Having read various reviews I simply do not believe they are so much better to warrant the price. We would never recover the difference through lower heating bills given that rockdoor also has A rating.

There will be those who disagree with my post quoted above. But the facts are:

£7655 with Everest versus £2600 with Rockdoor, when Rockdoor are the better product. To explain the bleedin obvious - Everest offered a brazen, in your face, total rip off price, with no negotiation or justification, in the hope that OP would accept it.

To view this in a different light...Rockdoor make a good profit and remain in business by doing so. Likewise the installer. I do not have any objection to this. However I do have an objection to Everest accepting the same profit levels and then placing an additional £5050 in the back pocket of the salesperson just for answering an enquiry.

To state another bleedin obvious which tells consumers where Everest's real priorities lie - the salespersons commission was equivalent to around twice the value of the work. That is, the priority is the commission, which is the important part of the job, and not the supply and fitting of the doors. This fact will be a reality check for many consumers.

Further, this commission is being paid for by the consumer who is asking for the quotation. Hence the advertising claims of "free quotations" are complete BS.

This serves as a valuable lesson in life to anyone thinking of asking Everest for a quotation.

I remember getting window quotes, 3 other companies were around a grand, after 2.5 hours Mr Everest says £4.5k - could have saved us both 2.5 hours by saying that at start.
Maybe they are the best, but never 3 or 4 times better to justify extra in price.
  • Everest are very good at doing the whole sales patch, like the previous post, they very good at wasting your time for 2 hours, showing your scary videos on how burglars can break into non-everest doors and breaking into everest doors is impossible.

Right at the end they tell you the price. Agree with last post. If the price was mentioned early would have saved a lot of wasting time.

They are very much pressure sales man. We got quotated for a composite front door of £10k only to be told they have 50% off so we can get it for £5k. I told him where to do, to be fair he didnt put a fight and just left but I know from others some will just stay and continue with pressured selling.

I'm sure that I've read somewhere that the best way to deal with an Everest salesperson is to say. "I only want to hear one quote for this job. This first quote must also be the last quote. I am not prepared to sit around for two hours while you tell me a load of waffle about the price".
I would think that this might tend to concentrate the salesperson's mind a little.
It would be nice to hear from anyone who has actually said this to a salesperson.

  • I live in an ex council mid terrace house ,for five new windows I had an Everest rep quote me £10300 then he magically reduced the price to £6881 which is still way overpriced , week later I had a quote of £3100 from a local firm and that was with extra joinery work done
