"Sadly, I’m not a millionaire and therefore don’t make nearly enough to be taxed anything close to £2.24 million..."

What a non-story...
Solicitor mistypes number on paperwork drama.0 -
A good reminder to always read what you're signing though. As a keen MSEr you probably read all t&cs thoroughly but sadly not everyone doesCould you do with a Money Makeover?

Sounds like a lucky escape, it would have been annoying waking up one morning to discover £2,240,000 missing from your bank account.0

I use no gas. My gas meter reading is always zero.
Despite this, one quarter British Gas estimated my meter reading to be 85.
Next quarter, my meter reading was zero again, so they charged me for 1109757 units. I think the bill was six figures.
I had a moment of panic, before I realised how stupid they would look if they took this to court, but it still took them about 6 months to sort it out and I had no compensation for distress, despite their customer's charter. Another reason I was happy to leave.0 -
We've just bought a house and when we got our survey back I was horrified to find that the surveyor had accidentally added an extra nought to the valuation figure and had valued the house at nearly £1.5 million. What made me laugh was that the report had the figure in it and then they'd typed out the figure in full. Obviously they didn't bother with proofreading!0

When I last tried to buy the solicitor's secretary accidentally typed "detached mouse" instead of "detached house" in the contract and I ended up paying £560k for a small rodent.0

Had something similar happen - BG esimated by reading - a couple of days later I submitted an actual reading, which was lower, and the next day my usage was showing at x-million kwh of energy.
Spoke to BG who of course sorted it, but was told that yes, their system assumed I'd gone around the clock in a few days - apparently their system can't comprehend the possibility that they got the estimate wrong - crazy0 -

Would be far less reason for people to post on MSE if they did. :eek:0 -

Good advice, but it would probably be equally good advice to know in advance how much the SDLT payment (and other payments) should be - had the bill been wrong by 10% rather than 10,000% (or whatever it was) would you have spotted that?0
