free office suite required.

Can anyone recommend a small office suite please. I only need it for producing letters. Clearly spelling errors being identified is of importance.

Make sure you have an English spell checker, not American.

Also a "Grammar Checker" as spell checkers can be a pain. For instance "The read rabbit red the read book" will pass a spell checker.

I also like WPS office suite. It isn't as large as Libre (which I also use) and Open Office (on which Libre is based). I only found out about it following a review in Computeractive magazine and they gave it a very good write up.

WPS used to be called Kingsoft and the initial download (for me) used that name, but a subsequent update brought in the WPS logo. It provides word processing, spreadsheet and powerpoint functionality and you have the option of selecting ribbon or older style layouts.

As it's free (and small which is what you are looking for) it is certainly worth trying out
  • Another vote for WPS Office. I have WPS and MS Office on my Windows PC and always use WPS. On my Linux PC I have WPS and Libre Office - and always use WPS.

Thanks for all that. I've gone for the Apache Open Office. If I get on with it, fine, if not it will be to one of your recommendations.

Does WPS still open a browser link back to base, on starting?
Very annoying when I tried Kingsoft.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I take it you mean the home page in WPS itself? Only if you have that option selected.....The other option is to open to 'New document', it then opens as just that....
