Wow, your recycled kitchen sounds fabulous, mothernerd! And as for the broken crystal, that's just awful! I hope you weren't left with a scar.

My cats are a bit nuts. My female cat, for some reason, gets really freaked out and scared if you walk towards her to pick her up without bending down first. She backs away and meows really loudly. We've had her from being a kitten, she's never been hit or abused in any way as far as we know and it's not something my other cats have ever done (all 8 of them!). If you bend down to her level first, she's fine.

I wonder if the hooded brats at the end of the street have ever done anything to her. My dad caught them chasing her one day and gave them a good telling off. They don't come down the street anymore since they found a can of white paint in our garden (where they shouldn't have been!) and decided to throw it all over the street and my Dad caught them. They won't be doing that again lol!

Using up yet more mince and carrots from the freezer, this time added some grated cheese to the lasagna to use it up. So far this week I've emptied half a drawer of freezer stuff just with me being here so I'm on track to have a drawer cleared for my new flatmate when she arrives at the end of the month.

Apple butter is basically apple, sugar and spice. Stewed in the slow cooker all day. The juices from the apple are released and mix with all the sugar, at the end you blend it with a hand blender and put it into sterilised jars. You use it as you would jam - in porridge, in cake, on toast etc. it's delicious! I can write out the recipe if you'd like?

Another waste not want not for me:
We made a double compost bin tonight out of free pallets, scrap wood and polythene we had already. I was able to put my first bucket of scraps in it too :-)

We are currently having a log fire using scraps of wood too.

The apple butter recipe would be great if it isn't too much trouble to type it out, thanks IWAB :)

OH came home from work with a bag of very ripe pears that he hadn't eaten - used up the last of the stork to make a yummy pear crumble! He's learning lol, he brought them home so I could "do something with them". A few weeks ago he'd have thrown them in the bin!

I made an apple crumble yesterday with a load of apples that had been sat in the fruit bowl for a few weeks. Hubby insists I buy fruit as he's being healthy then doesn't eat it! Maybe it's all a ploy so I'll make a crumble or banana cake etc.

Finished off the last of my crumble today for lunch with half of my HM granola bar.

Yesterday finished off the last of my small bags of frozen grated cheese and some chipolatas I had in the freezer.

I'm quietly pleased about my matches. I found them in the shed last time I moved things round in there (an ongoing process). My middle son used to smoke in there when it was raining (not allowed to smoke in the house). He left 2 1/2 years ago and the shed roof has been leaking (now mended). But they work - was just running out of the match stockpile I found after he had moved out and moving youngest son down from the attic (he had four bottles of sun screen lotion as well - just finished using the last of them as general body lotion).

:) Due to being away from home Fri-Sun, I had a third of a 4-pinter of milk with a use-by date of yesterday which I wouldn't be able to drink in normal tea-only use before it rotted.

So, had instant mash potato with my supper last night made with milk and finished the rest in the morning porridge, which is otherwise made with water. Now all used up and the replacement 4-pinter is to be 'bought' with a free voucher.

    Waste not, want not. :)
