Certainly as I drove through Henley this morning, the river level was an inch or so from flooding the road by the bridge. Shops and houses were bagged up ready.
Yesterday evening, I spoke to someone in Hurley (Henley-Marlow) who'd had a chat with a lockkeeper. Apparently that morning a load of water had been let past a sluice/weir at Caversham. Perhaps this was to get ready for that peak coming down later.

I wouldn't place too much trust in Sky News, they do tend to blow things out of proportion.

I live in the Caversham area......everyone was out getting prepared yesterday evening / night as it was supposed to hit us early this morning (around 2am).....now supposed to be tonight........

Ah well, everything is prepared as much as it can be, just got to keep fingers crossed! (it does seem to have been quite reasonable weather where we are ***crosses fingers again*** )

The cruise on the thames you are booked on may not happen. see warning below

Last night there was a high tide for about 5 hours, today at the same time there has been a low tide for 4 hours. Think the thames barrier is being used a lot.

There's some good info in www.floodlondon.com about potential flooding in central london
Thames lifeboats are on alert after an urgent warning about dangerous river conditions from the Environment Agency.
They have issued the following messages:

PLEASE DO NOT NAVIGATE - MOOR IN A SAFE PLACE, PREFERABLY IN A MARINA OR A RECOGNISED MOORING.

THE RIVER IS DANGEROUS AND UNPREDICTABLE WHEN IN FLOOD. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY RISKS – PUT YOUR SAFETY FIRST

Environment agency this morning stated that the Thames is dropping. The areas downriver of Abbingdon (reading, henley, windsor etc) "wont" flood (assuming no freak weather conditions I expect) if they haven't yet. Noticed that some of the river section whcih were on flood warning have been downgraded to flood watch. Thank goodness for that because on Saturday Im supposed to be going camping for a week in Chertsey.

I'm in Henley. I've seen the river a lot higher than this - it's not even over the road, so I'm not worried. I don;t think it's going to flood much if at all really. The pictures on the news are of Marsh Meadows which floods regularly (it's a flood plain!) but everywhere else is dry as far as I can see.

Looks like we got away with it.

My parents live in Droitwich and my h2b in Worcester, both of which were badly affected.

  • Here in Gloucester it's been raining again all afternoon (again) - roads waterlogged and traffic building.

This is our 4th day without running water but collecting water from a bowser in the rain is still a little weird.:D

Hope you guys and girls get back to normal a.s.a.p

I live up North its been raining very heavy here this afternoon got soaked just running to the car from supermarket so 2 minutes walk at most, only problems we have had is large poodles and small streams on the roads, a little bit of flooding in known blackspots and no long term damage that I have heard to properties although we have had rain almost every day for 2 and bit months
