Problems with Severn Trent

Options
Hi guys,

Currently having a few issues with Severn Trent relating to mistaken identity and them being really unhelpful!

Basically in August I received a letter from them informing me that I still owed them money on an unpaid bill from July this year from an apartment I moved out well over a year before. Looking closely it was actually for a different apartment in the block of apartments that I had lived in (no. 2 rather than no.16). Rang them up, immediately my date of birth differed from the person they are after even though our names are the same ( very common name!). So eventually they believe that I'm not the person they were after and assured me I would hear nothing more of it.

Then at the beginning of October I get a letter from a debt collecting firm explaining that they had been informed by Severn Trent to try and get this unpaid bill. I ring them again as well as the debt firm to explain again. Again I get told that they will not be bothering me again.

This morning I get a letter from Severn Trent basically saying that County Court proceedings will be starting against me in 14 days if I do not pay the amount. I ring again, again get assured that the balance will be zeroed and that they will send me a letter saying so.

Obviously I dont believe a word they say now and am annoyed by it all! Is there anything else I can do to sort the situation out?

Regards,

Matt

    Welcome to the forum.

Contact the Consumer Council for Water, their role is to support customers and they are normally very good.

Normally a telephone call will suffice.

A word of advice - do not deal in any way with a Debt Collecting Agency(DCA). They are not interested in the merits of the case - they just want money.
  • Thanks for the advice.

Have just rang them and they are going to look into it for me.
