Is there an Under 18's account that issues a contactless card??

Hi I have been looking round for months now, I am trying to find an under 19's account with a contactless debit card. My partners debit and credit cards are contactless but hes over 18 and I would really like one. I am with Lloyds who have given me a cheque book ( im 17). I also have a cheque book with HSBC.

HSBC have said I can order one as soon as I'm 18 and Lloyds said I'd have to request one and might not get one anyway. Any ideas??

thanks:j:j

Always remember that the colour or functionality of your debit or credit card does not make you a better or worse person.

Is it really that important? I'd be tempted to find one that was not contactless and use the PIN every time. Even though I have a contactless card I usually forget it is and use the PIN anyway. It scares me if I lose my wallet the finder of the wallet could be a thief and can go and have a a few drinks at the pub for free if I don't report it lost in time.

I've not heard of any pubs accepting the contactless facility. I suspect there may be problems with people "forgetting" their purchases.

Barclays seem to be about the only people offering this facility on the basic account, as such they may be worth checking for under 18s.

It'll depend on your area. Most of the pubs around me take contactless (Mainly because any machine from the last couple of years has contactless). It could be an exception though as apart from 1 they all take Amex as well.

Maybe you could tell the OP how your under 18 child got a contactless card with Lloyds. :D

The new Nationwide Flexone account seems to offer a contactless debit card.

  • As an update to this thread, UK Law previously meant that to have a contactless card, you must be over 18 and have background credit checks. However, this week, legislation was changed. Now, you do not need background checks to have a contactless debit card and you can get one if you are under 18. I'm sure many banks will adopt this, but currently (as far as I am aware) Barclays has just introduced Contactless Debit Cards for Under 18s this week, and is the first and only bank to do so. I have just signed up for one this week. So to answer, Barclays is now offering Contactless Debit Cards to Under 18s :)

As a matter of interest, what UK Law required this?
