Could anybody help my Mum? She tells me that her mobile Phone is showing a message that the sim card is not recognised, even though she has had this particular phone in use for over five years and it maybe as long as eight. Do sim cards have a shelf life?

try taking the sim card out and cleaning the gold contacts with a cloth.

if that doesnt work, it might be time to upgarde the phone to something more recent

Some networks cut lines off if they are not used enough. Which network is your mum with?
