Car insurance declined.

What is the insurance industry standard definition of declined, cancelled, refused or voided policy.

I know the wording of each is subject to interpretation. What I am interested in the the correct answer if your insurance company informs you they will not renew your policy when it comes to an end.

They are not cancelling it as it can run until it's expiry date.
As the current policy is still valid it has not been voided.
They have not refused as no application as yet has been made to obtain new insurance.

Technically they have declined to renew, but no application has been made by the policy holder so an actual application for insurance hasn't been declined.

I really don't need the I think without something firm to back it up.

Thanks.

A refusal to quote for a new policy is not a problem.

  • Have you got anything to support that?

The reason I ask is, if we are both wrong saying some random on the net said it was ok will not help matters.

You dont say why they refused cover.

I was 19 and went from a medium 1300cc hatchback to a 3500cc V8.. They declined to cover me on that. I mentioned it when getting a quote and they said it wasnt a problem and didnt need to be declared i was not their type of customer. They wouldnt insure a younger driver with a car/engine that size.

They don't want to offer you insurance, it's not a decline, nor is it fraud.

If I were you, I'd speak to a specialist broker, such as Adrian Flux, as I'm forming in my mind you're high risk of some sort.

  • You sound in a similar age group to me, that being one when 19 years olds could get insurance for such cars.

The reasons being age, basically too old and more than one claim for collisions in the past 12 months. I would guess they have paid out ten times the amount of the premium and therefore for them it us not viable business.

I can't give you the full story as I haven't been told this myself. I am trying formost to prevent a false declaration being made and secondly to prevent someone from driving perhaps who shouldn't be in the interests of everyone safety.

So what is the insurance industries definition of decline?

You're forming the wrong opinion of my as my premium is a couple of hundred quid. See my other post as we've crossed.

If you feel someone should not be on the road, this is a matter that will need to be taken up with the authorities, but only on health/eyesight grounds. You'll need to speak to the DVLA, as I'm not aware of what the exact procedure is.

If it's purely a commercial decision from the insurance company and the above does not apply, then the person is free to declare the accidents and seek insurance with another insurer.

I have 2 non-fault accidents and one fault accident in the last 5 years (although I am averaging 60k miles a year, which may explain why it's so high), and my quotes I found quite reasonable.

I do seem to have hit an age where I'm considered experienced and safe by insurance companies, though.

A policy was cancelled due to non-disclosure.

See this post from 2010 by an IFA as reference to this, on a similar question on the forum.

I know what the proceedure is to inform them. It's nothing to do with health or eyesight.

What I need to establish is the industry definition of decline as its not always the same as the dictionaries.

I've just given you a link by a reputable individual on this forum.

Sorry, we seem to be cross-posting.
