Greasy Hair Help

It might just be my hair but occasionally switching brands/types of shampoo seems to stop mine going greasy as often. Could be a coincidence because I doubt it's anything to do with the shampoos but it makes me feel happy

Personally I wouldn't go without washing my hair for 6 weeks but I imagine it takes a particular mindset to do so and not everyone has that. We need to respect that others believe things we don't and not suggest you would 'waste your life' if you don't attempt it.New to this money saving lark. Any tips greatly received.

I honestly dont think your age has anything to do with it. Your a grown woman, not a girl and your out of puberty and nowhere near the menopause.
Just get any shampoo for greasy hair and wash it everyday, they will all work.Instead of messing about doing the roots and whatnot just wash it and use a hairdryer to dry it. Even long hair can be dried quickly.
You dont need to water down shampoo, no wonder your hair is getting greasy if your not washing it properly.
Its really no big deal, just buy the correct shampoo, wash it and dry it. What could be more simple?0 -

There are still some big hormonal things going on in your early twenties.0 -
Whats that called then? I mean theres hormonal things going on for everyone all the time. But the big ones for women are puberty, pregnancy and the menopause.
The main problem from what OP has said is that she's not washing her hair properly or using the right shampoo for her hair type. Its a very straighforward to deal with really.
Hope OP gets it sorted anyway.0 -
I think it's still the tail end of puberty. My teenage skin and greasy hair lasted several years in to my 20's, and I've got friends who had terrible acne as teens which didn't settle down for years after puberty is supposed to be over.dandelionclock30 wrote: »Whats that called then? Hi, I've suffered with greasy hair for years now, never struggled with it during my teens, oddly enough! I've got quite long hair and can't be bothered to wash every day, so for along time it was just a case of putting up with it!
I've tried loads of different wash methods, and some of them have worked quite well. My favourite method is shampoo bars and a rinse afterwards with Apple cider vinegar, or sometimes I just use a Conditioner without silicone. There are loads of other things you can try such as co-washing (conditioner only) or cwc (condition-wash-condition) Google them to see what they're all about!
You need to make sure you condition your whole head though, as it's a common misconception that conditioner will make your hair greasy. This isn't true as long as it's rinsed out properly, and it's important to condition your scalp to stop it from drying out and thus creating more grease. Its a bit counter intuitive, but shampooing more usually equals more grease!
If you want to keep using Shampoo, gentle shampoos are best, try to find one without sulphates for a gentler clean.
Also, try a natural dry shampoo to keep the greases away between washes if you don't want to wash every day!
Sorry if that's a whole load of info, I just thought it would be helpful, I hope you find a solution that works for you!

I've had greasy hair for my whole life and I'm almost 50!
It is much better than during my teenage years but it's one of the reasons that I dye it blonde, it doesn't seem to appear quite so lank when it is a lighter colour. Of course, now that my dark roots are coming through again, it looks horrible today...the gale force wind has made it feel really greasy this evening
It's very hard to buy a shampoo for "greasy hair" now, I usually have to go for a clarifying shampoo or even something from a men's range. Body Shop used to make a grapefruit shampoo which was excellent but they don't make it anymore as far as I know.
If it's any consolation, when you are as old as me, your hair will probably be in much better condition than that of your peers. People are always telling me that my hair is lovely and shiny (greasy!) and that it is in really good condition. Having very long hair can be a bind if you have greasy hair though, having to wash it all every day is quite a task! And if you do wear it up, don't pull it too tight, you can easily break it off at the roots if you pull it tight away from your face. And using elastic bands can cause breakage along the lengths."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

But there is such a fantastic variation in 'properly'. People might enjoy this one:

My hair is long and blonde, and has been terribly greasy since I was a teenager. The only time it wasn't was when I was taking extreme acne medication that stopped all oil production. A couple of years ago I started trying to wash my hair less, as it was actually making it worse.
Now I wash with the Aussie Miracle Shampoo and condition the bottom 2/3 with their Miracle Moist conditioner. In between washes I use Batiste dry shampoo on the roots. I can get 2, sometimes even 3 days out of a wash now, unless I go to the gym or get caught in the rain!0 -
Do NOT use H&S. I would advise a sulphate/silicone free shampoo and conditioner.0
