I used to wash my hair every day and it was fine, my hair dries quite quickly. Recently I've started washing every second day and using dry shampoo in between.

I've found using clear shampoo (i.e. the ones that are kinda see through, not a creamy-looking one) is essential to minimise grease. You could also try using a clarifying shampoo every so often, to clear build up. I personally don't ever use conditioner. Not necessary and makes my hair far too greasy and unmanageably soft.

For what it's worth: you might find it gets better as you get older.

Would you care to share with us your washing regime?

Wet hair, add blob of shampoo, rub in, then rinse.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

If you have the time, wash your hair daily. My hair is usually greasy/sweaty when I get up and I can't stand how it feels dirty. If you're using products every day (mousse, hairspray, serum etc) you need to wash it out. Try going for a "for greasy hair" shampoo and conditioner. I've started to use an argon oil shampoo that my mum recommended from Poundland which is really good :)

I have heard of "no-poo" where people only use water to wash their hair and let it naturally dry, similar to what Babbawah suggested. It's personal preference I guess. I know I couldn't not wash my hair for that long! :rotfl:

Shampoo doesn't just clean the hair, it cleans the scalp. If the shampoo is too harsh it can cause problems in people who are prone to skin or scalp problems but to go to the other extreme and not use any soap or shampoo in your hair could lead to the scalp becoming itchy and dirty.

  • When I was in my early 20's I had really greasy hair, I tried all sorts of remedies; rinsing with vinegar, washing with bicarb, using conditioner only, not using conditioner at all. None of it worked! the only thing that would give me nice normal, non-greasy hair was to wash it everyday.
A few years later my hormones must have settled down because it doesn't get so greasy anymore, I still wash it everyday though because I just don't like the feeling of having an unwashed scalp :o
My hair is in great condition so washing it daily hasn't done any damage.

Back when I was 19 I tried what Babbawah suggests and to ne honest I wouldn't recommend it. I washed my hair with water only for three months, and although it didn't smell or feel too greasy, it looked horrendous. Seriously, looking back at photos now I can't believe no-one told me how awful I looked, my hair was dull, lank, and just generally gross looking. Never again!
  • I used to have this issue too, I would wash my hair in the evening and by the afternoon of the next day it looked disgusting!

I switched to a sulphant free shampoo and only wash my hair every 2 or 3 days and using dry shampoo (batiste brunette) between.

Its been 4 months and I can not go almost 2 days before I have to dry shampoo.

Cutting out silicones has also been a revelation, my fine long hair now has natural body and bounce and a little wave.

Are you confident that my hair isn't blonde?

Don't waste your life being an uninformed sceptic, go out & try for yourself all of those things that you watch others do.

You can't be 'confident' of anything anyone writes on an anonymous internet forum! But I can tell you for certain if you had caucasian/blond hair and left it for 6 weeks you would look like a bag-lady (or the male equivalent).

Thank you for all of your comments. :)

My hair is in between my waist and hips, and is dark brown. It it also very thin and always has been. I hardly touch it, and it is up most of the time. :)

I don't like the idea of just washing it with water, I have tried it before and it has left it really greasy anyway.

I have been recommended dry shampoo for the days that I don't wash it (I wash it every 48hours) but worried about using too many chemicals.

I have also used watered down shampoo for the roots, so they are being washed but not as intense.

I have also been recommended head and shoulders shampoo...as it is meant to be good for this sort of thing? :)

Does anyone recommend any type of shampoo? I tried one that was timotei pure? I tried it for a few weeks but it didn't really help...

It may just be my age :(

    -Kitty.
