Duplicate Speeding ticket?

At the beginning of last week OH received a letter from the police regarding speeding. Apparently he was on the M25 and went over the limit.

I opened the letter as he is away at the moment and told him about it. He said he will deal with it when he gets home.

Today he has received another letter identical in all respects except the reference number. The place where the speeding took place is identical as is the time - 15:31:40. So why 2 letters?

Is this likely to be a mistake? I know nothing about speeding tickets (don't drive) but can't see why he has received 2 letters saying exactly the same except for the reference number. I am worried that for some reason he pay have to pay 2 amounts and at £100 each I will not be amused

Thanks for that. They were no help whatsoever so will have to get OH to try phoning the police.

A tad harsh - people giving advice freely to you, in their own time. And nine responses in the space of a few hours of posting! I've read the thread and the discussion is building on it. No one is likely to be able to give you an absolutely definitive answer to your total satisfaction on this, only the police it would seem.

But do take the advice given on PePiPoo to deal with this as a priority, or risk 6 points on your husband's licence.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

You don't expect to get a "get out of jail card" with a police ticket, just assistance on what to do.

Well saying he may have been caught twice on the same stretch of road when I already said that ALL details were the same apart from the reference number was no help and neither was saying it might be the police sending out a reminder. They may well send out a reminder but not that quick

I did only expect assistance but up till this morning there was NONE

If I give advice on these forums I:

    (a) make sure it is on something I know about
    (b) read the post PROPERLY. My post could not have been much shorter and yet still people didn't read it properly.

I do realise that it needs to be dealt with quickly. That wasn't what I needed advice on

I don't use PEPIPOO very much, but my understanding of it, is that it is much quieter at weekends.

If I was you, I would phone the police and just ask for clarification on where it was mistake or not.

Also, whether you think it or not, it does not pay to be so openly rude the people you are hoping are going to help you.

    Best of luck.
