I just got the pathetic email from Sky I wonder whether they actually sent out letters informing customer of the price increases lucky read the email thought it was some junk initially.

The letters also had a nice shiny envelope akin to that used by junk mail.

I need to move my telephone, broadband and tv to some other companies had Tv with them for long time can anyone advise me how to do this ? is there any specific companies with good deals right now ? am cluess so would appreciate any kind of help with this.

    Thanks
    Kay
The price was bound to go up as BT have increased their charges. However, unless you are in minimum term, there is no need to pay these prices, if you are willing to haggle.

It's my first year of trying but I got free line rental and half price tv, though the freebie took three attempts.

I have Sky TV, Phone & Broadband with Sky on a 12 month contract. Just to clarify, does this mean I can cancel the Phone & Broadband without penalty?

I foresee a dodgy Sky tactic being I can't cancel the 'broadband' aspect of the package, so will still incur a fee if I wish to move...

The answer to that question is Yes, you can cancel telephone and broadband without penalty as long as you call Sky and tell them you want to exercise this right. They will then apply the contract exemption to your account. You then have 31 days to move elsewhere.

    The previous answer is wrong.

FYI for anyone unhappy with this increase then you are best to call through the option to cancel telephone/broadband as they have better offers to keep these products than the department which deals with people looking to cancel the tv account. You can always call tv cancellations later for a tv offer!
  • This is the end of the road for me and sky. Got rid of the TV but they persuaded me to stay with sky talk and broadband and gave me a cheap deal with a new 12 month contract. Straight after that, I lost broadband for about 10 days. Found out after asking on their forum that they were running tests on my line, they didn't even bother informing me my email. I'm also tired of all the phone calls trying to get me back on a TV deal. The letter is good news, I can leave them without having to pay a fee. Just got the one phone call where they spend ages trying to talk me out of leaving but I've had it with them.

Unless you also have mobile internet, they would have been unable to send you an email, when your broadband was down.

There was a message on the My sky section of the website, saying that they were experiencing problems in certain regions.

Also, My Sky allows you to choose which methods, if any, you wish to be used for marketing purposes.

Can I just clarify, does this price rise allow us to cancel both phone and broadband or just phone? If the latter I guess cancelling is a waste of time as the broadband will go up by £5 or whatever it is...

Yes you can (see bubblegun's post #34 above). I was only 1 month into a new Sky contract (line rental + BB) and was able to re-negotiate an even better deal.

If you are a good negotiator then I would try for free BB and half-price line rental.
