I asked the woman on the phone , quite specifically "do we have to tell our insurance company whats occured?" and she categorically stated , No...

Some on here say you should let them know every little scrape you have, even say scratching it on your home wall or something as daft as that.
If you can get car repaired by this company, I would keep quiet.
Not having my premiums put up because some !!!!!! can't drive.
That's just what I'd do, not advice.... :)

If i was involved in a road traffic accident that involved a third party and an insurance claim to cover the cost of repairs then i would definitely inform my insurance company regardless of what anybody says

if any of your details from this claim end up on the Claims and Underwriting Exchange database, then it could be seen by your insurance company at the time of renewal or in the event of an at fault claim in the future

this is a database that contains more than 30 million customer claims records, and if it contains info about a claim in your name that you have not declared to your insurance company then it could invalidate your insurance

yes it is a loophole but insurance companies love a loophole to get out of a mega bucks claim

If i crash into my gate post and damage my car then that is my fault and nobody needs to know but in this case i would be very wary about not declaring

Thread on here indicates different, but you'd have to be mad to do so!

Fair enough on the rest, just feels an injustice to me losing out when not at fault.
What you say is more sensible of course :)

I hear you , its a bloody conundrum , all the more as its totally and utterly blame free on our side , i know the woman at the insurers of the rental company can tell me anything but its up to me to make the right call , the claim should be on the name of the rental company though , not ours , but i accept our car reg at the least could make its way onto a database somewhere

In my not so sensible thinking I would find out how this company would record my details and repairs to my car.

an insurance company should not penalize you for declaring a no fault claim so you should not suffer any financial loss

that said insurance companies do a lot of things that they shouldn't do, but i personally wouldn't want to jeopardize any future claim by not declaring

I also feel the same about loosing out when it is not my fault
  • seems the company is not going the rout of their own insurers and handling it privately.

in this case, entirely down to you whether you inform your insurers FIO, but you cant rely on the person who hit you to enter this as a fault claim to their insures FIO and pass your information onto them.

    (FIO for information only).

if I was you I would contact the hire company again and ask how this is going to be recorded, will it be recorded on national system for claims (cant remember what its called now) or are they not going to record it at all. then call the guy at fault and ask if he/she has informed their insurer if not you could suggest this is being dealt with privately and that there should be no need to inform them, or if she has you know you have to declare it.

It's obviously just miscommunication - they want their insurer to deal with the repairs and not for your insurer to deal with the repair then send a bill to them.

You need to inform them anyway as a claim will be on the central DB so hardly deniable.

have a look at that it is fairly relevant, and as i said you should not suffer financial loss due to a no fault claim but we also know the insurance companies seem to be a law unto themselves

    Shouldn't, but many do.
They do ask for claims irrespective of liability.
Try a few quotes with and without, see if price :)

Statistically if you're involved in an accident, even one not you're fault, you're more likely to be involved in one in the future.

This could be because you brake harshly (would be the car behind you at fault, but you still could have braked more gently and avoided the crash), choose to park on a blind bend causing someone to crash into you (not your fault, theirs for not anticipating that there may be a hazard around the corner) etc etc.

Stopped in traffic minding your own business, nob behind texting...
