I kept getting told 'you have no formal diagnosis so therefore we consider you do not have this condition' however they kept on saying this after I sent them proof of the diagnosis
I keep getting that from the NHS, never mind the DWP, which is why I wondered if they need a doctors confirmation before they will grant a payment.
Now they've gone completely the other way though, when I was in hospital last August I spent the whole week trying to convince them that I haven't yet had my heart operation, when my records say that I have. "Well all that matters now is that you're having another operation....." :wall:0 -

When I applied for PIP I kept getting told 'you have no formal diagnosis so therefore we consider you do not have this condition' however they kept on saying this after I sent them proof of the diagnosis and they said my consultant wasn't medically qualified to give a diagnosis! (I asked them who they needed to give a diagnosis then if a consultant surgeon in that field wasn't qualified. They declined to reply...)
This makes no sense at all. DWP / ATOS are there to decide whether you meet the criteria for PIP. Not to diagnose you.
I get the impression they don't know what they're on about. Some people, including me, didn't have a diagnosis for years because there's no set test for that diagnosis. In fact, at least two of mine have been accidental findings.
I have a rare eye condition; but have a common side effect of it and my GP had written that I have this side effect. (my balance is crap because I can't hold my head straight) The medical services from DLA who have never met me, decided this isn't the case.:mad:Sealed pot challenge #232. Hi, Take a look at this, it explains all about PIP. There's also a link in this guide which you can look at that explains the points and descriptors. You need to score at least 8 points to be awarded either daily living and/or mobility. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/wales/benefits_w/benefits_sick_or_disabled_people_and_carers_ew/benefits_personal_independence_payment_e/benefits_the_pip_assessment_e/pip_activities_descriptors_and_points.htm0 -
Just to add to the no diagnosis and DLA/PIP claim bit, I have had DLA awarded on multiple occassions at various rates and 15 years on I have no diagnosis and doubt I ever will. However what I did have that helped was clear medical evidence i.e test results, under multiple consultants, limbs that blatently aren't right etc..
I imagine it must be virtually impossible to award PIP if as the OP states there is depression with no diagnosis, by which I assume he means the person has decided themselves that they are depressed or says he feels depressed but the GP does not believe this is the case.0 -
Apologies I've just realised I've posted on an old thread and opened it again.0
