DLA is given for needs not a diagnosis. Also any new claims are for PIP now.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

You can't (apart from in NI) make a new claim for DLA. Its now PIP and the diagnosis doesn't matter. Although from experience, they do take you more seriously if you do have a diagnosis.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

To claim PIP you must have had difficulties for more than 3 months and expect them to last for longer than 9 months. PIP is all about how the condition affects you in daily life and not about the condition itself. Although as Indie Kid a diagnosis will help because if you have no diagnosis how do you get proof for the claim?peterpan01 wrote: »Question on behalf of friend:

Surely, you'd have letters stating that you're under a consultant and are undergoing tests? One of the conditions I had, I was having regular (I think it was every 6 months) apointments at the hospital and it took them some 4 years or so to diagnose me. But there was still evidence of a disability and some of the needs as a result of this.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Same for me before i was diagnosed but not everyone has a consultant...Surely, you'd have letters stating that you're under a consultant and are undergoing tests? It says you need a "doctor’s or health worker’s name", so presumably you wouldn't get very far unless that doctor acknowledges there's something wrong with you.0

they dont always contact your doctor.
i had 2 supersessions denied and both times the only information they used was the form.
i had to specifically ask them to contact my consultant even though her details were on the form both times.
they never even bothered contacting my GP

Applied for DLA before I had a formal diagnosis. Told them what was wrong and how I struggled. Also gave details of consultant and GP. Was awarded it for a fixed period of 18 months. Once I got my formal diagnosis had to reapply and was given DLA indefinitely.0

When I applied for PIP I kept getting told 'you have no formal diagnosis so therefore we consider you do not have this condition' however they kept on saying this after I sent them proof of the diagnosis and they said my consultant wasn't medically qualified to give a diagnosis! (I asked them who they needed to give a diagnosis then if a consultant surgeon in that field wasn't qualified. They declined to reply...)*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
