I have had no problem getting petrol whilst out and about on Xmas day. I have also used the self service pumps once on New Years day. The joy of working for NHS lol

450 miles - my car would make it there and half way back on a tank. I think all my past cars would have made it there, if I didn't drive like a loon.

Some, the bigger ones, would certainly be open on Xmas Day, but an alternative is to fill up half way there, say 10pm Xmas Eve.... just leave a bit earlier than you expected. And/or take a can.

If for any reason the Tesco at J43 can't dispense any fuel don't forget that there is an ASDA filling station at J44 and a Shell station accessed directly from the M6 just north of that junction. And both Tesco and ASDA have filling stations at Cumbernauld off the M80.

Am I correct in assuming that service stations need to, by law, remain open 24/7 and that includes holidays such as Christmas? I'm sure I read that on one of the service stations website.

Motorway service stations will be open to dispense fuel and provide toilets, although on Christmas Day there may be little else open. But in the spirit of money saving we are finding options that won't cost the arm and a leg that the motorway services will charge.
