Have a 05 Mondeo 1.8l. Fuel economy around town is poor less than 30mpg. On a long drive upto and around Scotland last year I did get 500 miles from a full tank = 42mpg.
As it happens I don't do enough mileage to be that concerned about the lowish mpg for urban driving.

Got 10 mpg in a 1988 Firebird when I drove it back sensibly from my mate's in Portsmouth to Feltham one day many moons ago, thought that was pretty good as I never generally saw more than 8 mpg in normal day to day use.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

I have the 130 TDCI. Bought in 2009 and still going well. They are not all bad if you choose wisely.

    Avoid anything not serviced often.

I read the Turbo is a ticking time bomb on the 130. Had the 115 TDCI previously though, wonderful to drive though.

No the turbo's are quite reliable. What they do get is sticky vanes due to lots of short journeys or if the injectors are got working properly.

Bought mine in 2009 for just over £2000 and its still good. Normally i do short journeys so not ideal for a diesel. But ive put more miles on that i would normally do and its now over 170,000 miles.

2 Tyres, 2 rear calipers, a set of front and rear brakes. 1 exhaust a few months back. 1 jubilee clips when a pipe popped off the turbo.
Total bills just over £1000 since 2009 inc servicing and MOT's

I have a 2008 Mk4 Mondeo 2.0 petrol. MPG is about 32 acording to the trip computer, but it's all short trips around town. I used to have a MK3 Tdci 130 - brilliant car, very pokey but great mpg. It did cost me a fair bit for a new DMF & other bits, though. There seem to be some great bargains around in used Mondeos, whether diesel or petrol, and I think the engines are all chain cam, so no belt changes to worry about. The MK4 is abit of a big old barge, though, not too easy to park!

Any Diesel with a DMF is a £1000 bill waiting, they all fail sooner or later.
They are starting to fit them to petrol cars now as well to save manufacturing two boxes.
Mondeos can shred the DMF every 60-65,000 and the injectors just pack in without warning one day.
At least with petrol mondeos, you know the when the guillotine of bangernomics is about to drop, with the diesels you turn them off one day and they sound like 500 bean tins falling from above and thats the DMF gone.
The starter failing in text book warning, so when buying any Diesel mondeo, take a torch and check for a new starter.
If its new, don't walk, run !

The Mondeo DMF can be done for £600 if you shop around. Proper parts not junk ones.
They rarely fail instantly and give plenty of warning.

Same with the injectors. Its usually a gradual decline, Usually ignored until it cause the car not to start or runs like a bag poo.

They started to fit them to petrol cars now? They fitted them to petrol cars 15 years ago also.

The DMF only dies at 60 - 65,000 if abused. You should get 100 - 150,000 from one.
