How do I sell my website?

Options
Could anyone tell me if there are any sites where I could sell my website. I paid £2400 including VAT for it. How would I value it?

Also it is set up with Sagepay. Is it possible to transfer this over to the new buyer or would they need to set up a new sagepay account and repay for it?

Thanks

what kind of site is it?
  • Its a clothing retailer site. I bought it through EKM Powershop its very easy to use and update and you can add unlimited stock, discounts, offers etc.

I guess the value would depend on sales and income generated like any other business.
  • It has only been up and running a few months and only generated £30 of sales :( its live on google now and getting around 300 views per day.

    Also stock won't be included.
  • I suppose it would be good for someone just starting out and wanting to keep costs down? I'm not sure.

Did you really pay £2400 for the website?
Or did you actually pay someone £2400 for the design of the web content 10 months ago?

Martin paid someone £100 initially to set up MSE, i.e it's content.
He sold it for £80million (if he's delivers the growth he's claiming)

The value is based on the business concept, not the website content. Essentially how much the business earns and what the growth potential is.

Ultimately, it's only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.
(I think Martin used all his persuasive skills to get someone with extremely deep pockets, and an existing business that would dovetail well with the MSE business, to splash their cash ... but I don't think he's got all the money even now)

No idea about Sagepay, sorry. I suggest you refer to whatever the contract says.

£30 of sales in a few months isn't going to get you much for it.
I bet the hosting fees are more than the profit it makes.
Sorry to say but without stock it sounds like its not worth anything until it generates an income.

You are selling the business, not the website. A buyer might want to buy the domain name as part of the business, but essentially it is like selling any business, I imagine, as bazza52 has said. Perhaps you should consult your accountant before you do anything.

I paid EKM Powershop £2400 for designing and setting up the website for me through their silver package which includes unlimited stock, 10 front page banners, multiple pages etc etc too many to list. I now just update it through the backend with new stock etc.

Unfortunately I just don't have the time to get the business properly up and running so it hasn't really had a chance yet and the website hasn't really made much sales.

I suppose it would help someone just setting up in business to have an already functioning website that they can just transfer over to their name for a reduced price?
