My post brefers to a bungalow. There is no lintel for the face brickwork on the front and rear elevations - here the soffit board rests on top of the window. Normal practice and this works. But there is steel to carry the brickwork on the gable ends.

Dormers will not have lintels because this is a timber construction. Again normal practice - the lintel will be a timber, hopefully!

Are you trying to say here that no bungalows have brickwork over the windows on front and rear eleavtion just soffit boards and that all dormer bungalows are timber . Below is the very estate were we encountered no lintols if you look above the upstairs dormer windows you will see the brickwork has been rebuilt

Thanks for this, which I find interesting. I am miles from this location, and in "my"part of the UK I have not come across any dormers built to this detail. I would even suggest, without wishing to be pedantic, that these may not be true dormers because conventional dormers have the structure in timber built with the roof. By this I would refer to NHBC house building concepts of how to construct a dormer. Regardless, these were all built many years ago, and this fashion is unlikely to return. But I do find your picture interesting - thanks again.
