I'm sure what you're saying is probably right, but she would have had considerably less need to be miffed had she set the appointment for a day when she doesn't work, which should have been pretty easy if she only works 2 days a week.

Agreed, assuming she works the same two days each week and isn't just allocated a random shift by her bosses to fill in at short notice.

her manager said it was best if she had it off as didnt want her in after having that done

Is there more to this than is being let on?

No nothing at all, she gets her rotas 6 weeks in advance and the dentist made an appointment after a recent emergency treatment for the tooth whereby she was offered a root canal or extraction, she went for the latter, she was happy to go in to work after the extraction but when she reminded her boss this week they said they would rather she is not in as she wouldnt be able to talk to patient for a while until such time numbness and pain wear off.

Granted it was her bosses decision for her not to come in but now that it was cancelled at short notice the night before she could haev in theory worked.

Think you may have missed the (rather silly I'll admit) point.

That's her choice, but to then go on and claim loss of earnings is just absurd. Not being funny but you should have words with your other half. Either she's rich and doesn't need to work much (defeats the purpose of this query), has problems (like depression etc - a proper "look after me" lass which certainly isn't a bad thing like but it is a bit iffy) or an idiot (unless you're the one pushing her into this!).

What the hell gives you the right to write such drivel about another human being?

You should be having words with yourself rather than recommending what other people do.

I'm still lost as to why, when the boss said it wasn't a good idea for her to come in after the procedure, she didn't rearrange the appt for another day?

I had a dentist appt on Monday but then got an appt through for the hospital. The timings were tight so I rang the dentist and rearranged. Problem solved.

    Yea well no offence but when you're on a zero hour contract (shifted in for 9 hours per day over 5-6 days a week) and facing the sack if you don't go into work an hour after having a tooth extraction you lose a bit of sympathy for a 2 day nurse who takes a whole day off for a tooth extraction simply because;

    1. They didn't tell the dental practice that the particular day is inconvenient (and that 5 out of 7 days ARE convenient)

    2. They didn't drag their bum into work despite what their manager recommends

Well no offence but for the remainder of her time she cares for our daughter who has Retts syndrome whilst I am at work 200 miles away

Tough, deal with it ... To the original post.

Can the dentist sue you the loss they have to accept when you (or others) don't turn up for the scheduled appointment ?

If so, I am sure they would be happy to accept that deal.

They do charge for people who dont turn up, my missus did so totally irrelevant, hence why I have asked the question, good enough for them then surely it is the other way round.

Further to this, she has gone in this morning as it was re-arranged and told again that they cannot do it as the plate has not arrived, but to come in this afternoon.
