We're all different, but that can be unhealthy. We all need to stand on our own two feet, and fight our own corners, and financial drip feeds can unsettle this. Note that I say "can" not "will", and it's down to how it's done.

Read "The Millionaire Next Door" for some insights.

    Agreed

Im lucky, my ma and pa gave me the best start - stable upbringing, good education and deposit for first home but on my own after that.

I intend to do the same for my son.

Dont think drip feeding cash to grown up kids (assume with kids of their own) is necassarily good for them or how they raise their kids (essentially they will be living a lifestyle above their own independant means)
Left is never right but I always am.

You think I should let HMRC have inheritance tax instead?

Gkerr4 we do all die... but I don't want to head towards retirement in fear that I won't have enough of a financial cushion to live comfortably in retirement.

Haven't bought the watch yet guys... lol.
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j

Personally I think its important to enjoy life along th eway and not be totally focused on savings for the future. If (big if) you can afford it then nothing wrong with treating yourself once in a while at all.
I am looking to upgrade to a 60" HD TV as my current one is 5 years old. Nothing wrong with my old TV at all but I feel i have worked hard and want to treat myself. Moderation and sensible thinking is whats needed and I don't think there is a right or wrong decision.

Careful with your back lifting that 60" of moderation :)
  • Opportunity cost but on a grander scale?

What other 'things' could you spend the same value o that may have a bigger impact on your Happiness ?

    1. Put a £5 in the pages of a Kids book in a bookstore ?

2.Pay for the elderly ladies shopping in front of you at the queue

    3. Climb to the top of a mountain first and give a £10 to the next person that joins you
Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.
