Family holiday in Greece. Any help?

Hi all,

I'm looking at taking my daughters to Greece for a Summer Holiday next year. My daughters at the time of travel will be 17, 14 & 11. I'm hoping to find an all inclusive for approx £1,500 if that's possible.

Does anyone have any websites, tips, places I can look at?

I can travel from any North, North/East, North/West or Nottingham airports.

Thanks in advance for any help or tips.

Kind regards

Mike

Do you mean the main summer holidays? July /August?
If so I think you would really struggle to find a 'decent' All Inclusive for that price. You may (but still highly unlikely I'd think) find a very cheap AI in somewhere like Malia or Kavos but it would be catering more for teenagers and party animals and will consist more of plenty of booze and not a lot of food and pretty poor accommodation.

If you want resorts that would cater for all ages consider Tingaki in Kos, Hersonissos / Aghios Nikolaos or Gouves in Crete, Kalamaki / Argassi in Zante, Ixia in Rhodes, or Dassia / Sidari in Corfu. These are decent sized resorts with enough to keep all ages busy but with a few decent priced AI hotels too.

Unfortunatly I do have to travel in the Summer Holidays in July/August.

Thanks for the suggestions with the other Islands :T I will take a look to see what's about.

If you do find somewhere that you fancy, check out the hotel reviews on Tripadvisor before you book.

Actually read the reviews rather than just looking at the ratings.
I'd avoid any that mention poor food - unless it's a complaint that they didn't serve frozen chips or pizzas. ;)

You can do a couple of nice trips from Tingaki (Kos), we went to Nysiros to the volcano and also did a very nice boat trip to several other islands.

I would avoid all inclusives in Greece as they negatively affect the local popuations & eating out isn't too expensive - Pefkos, in Rhodes, most of Crete except Malia would be suitable

  • Corfu has something for everyone. I would agree about going AI though- spending evenings in a variety of tavernas eating incredible food and getting to know the locals is a big part of the Greek experience.

Stalis in crete is fab. It's next to malia while being far enough away to not spill over

What The Queen of Cheap says!

Just come back from Stalis and it is a great family resort with no night clubs!

Have a look at Jet2 holidays for self catering.

We keep the costs down by using the takeaway Family Cretan restaurant for a few gyros pitas to take back to the hotel.

Oh my days, I'm drooling on the bus now, thinking about the gyros!

There is a nightclub there but you have to look hard to find it. It's on one of the side streets and you'd neer know by walking past it.

I love Stalis and try and go every year. It's almost like going to visit friends rather than going on holiday :D

I agree with this personally but I can understand why AI (which I loathe) is popular with families.

Cost of drinks, ice creams etc can quickly mount up and - if you get the right AI - are included.

As for Malia, we went last year in early September - we found a very good deal in highly rated accommodation - and loved it.

There is an old village just up from the top of the strip with some very good restaurants and you would never have known you were in a party party resort.
I wouldn't go July/August (which the OP is probably looking at with school-age kids) but definitely would consider it again out of season.

We eat out every lunchtime & every evening when in Greece or Turkey and doing a comparison between the total cost of a AI holiday (flight/accommodation) and a S/C package (flights/accommodation/food/drink), we reckon the price was pretty much even.

BUT - we chose when to eat, where to eat, what to eat and for us that is a big part of our holiday.

We've seen too many people queuing up - plates in hand - at lunchtimes in AI hotels.
<<shudder>> Not for us. But it obviously works for a lot of people.

Me neither. Unless you want to eat slop and drink bad beer and wine, cheap all inclusives are a no no.
We have always managed to self cater and eat fantastic food locally, wherever we go for a similar price to a cheap AI
