I happily used Outlook Express with XP until MS decided I couldn't use it with Windows 7.
Since then, we've successfully used Mozilla Thunderbird.
Now, messages are being deleted automatically from my wife's Thunderbird Inbox so she just has a running last four weeks' messages, same with 1&1 Webmail. Also, my own Sent box at TB is now empty but 1&1 Webmail still shows them. We're not happy with this.
1&1 can only suggest that messages are being deleted by a third party client (implication TB) and can offer no practical help other than suggesting changing password, which we've done.
Is there a Windows 7 user who can recommend an e-mail client? I've done various web searches but can't find one that is still supported or that doesn't have glitches.
(Why don't we just rely on 1&1 Webmail? Because they don't list Recipients for Sent messages, just the sender - and we KNOW who that is - or Senders in the Inbox, just the recipient - again, we KNOW who we are.)
Many thanks for help and advice.

Personally i would remove TB then install it and set up .
I use 1&1 and TB and have no problems .0 -
Check your Thunderbird account settings - server settings and see if that is set up correctly and also the copies and folder settings.
I use TB with a lot of accounts and it works fine.0 -
Thanks JJ Egan and aerostar for your quick responses. Yes, I've checked all 5 of our e-mail accounts settings and they're what they should be, including IMAP.
I had thought of deleting just my wife's account and reinstalling that but now I'm thinking of Uninstalling completely and installing it again. I'm just worried that I'll lose any more messages, including from 1&1 Webmail.
Have you any thoughts either way? Thanks.0 -
Just a thought, if you do prefer Outlook Express over Thunderbird, is there a reason you didn't just use Windows Live Mail/Windows Mail, which is its replacement from Win7 onwards?
There are two versions of this available, Windows Live Mail 2009 is part of the Windows Live Essentials 2009 package, and Windows Mail 2012 is part of Windows Essentials 2012 - The 2009 version is essentially just a rebadged Outlook Express, 2012 is a more up-to-date version with a UI you may or may not prefer, and both work fine on Win7.0 -
In my confused state when I was searching, I came across lots of comments on different solutions including some where support had been discontinued so I stopped and asked MSE.... is there a reason you didn't just use Windows Live Mail/Windows Mail, which is its replacement from Win7 onwards?
As I was looking to download 2009, my computer told me I already had the mail program. This turned out to be Outlook 2007. Anyway, I set this up for the two e-mail addresses giving me problems (my wife's, automatically deleting incoming messages after 30 days and mine, having deleted all sent messages up to a couple of days ago).
I've deleted these two from TB and will follow up on Outlook tomorrow to see signs of a remedy before deciding on whether to uninstall TB. Also, it's several days now since I asked the TB Community but have had no response there.
Thanks for the help and advice.

Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn't realised there was a choice. I prefer the interface of Windows Mail which I use on Vista. When I bought a netbook with Windows 7 Starter I initially used Thunderbird but found it got very slow with 3 or 4 months' messages. I then moved to Windows Live Mail which performs a lot better. There are two versions of this available, Windows Live Mail 2009 is part of the Windows Live Essentials 2009 package, and Windows Mail 2012 is part of Windows Essentials 2012.
As for deleting messages, it is probably necessary to check all the settings. I have forgotten how Thunderbird works, but with Outlook Express/Windows Mail/Windows Live Mail deleting messages puts them in a Deleted folder. They then have to be deleted again from there with a confirmation. On the Advanced settings tab there is an option to leave messages on the server for a specified number of days or until they are deleted. I leave mine for 35 days and aim to download them to two other machines within that time.0
