Acer P643 laptop faulty keyboard

Hope some one can help,
I purchased an Acer laptop from Ebay (1st June 2014) paid through PayPal a buy it now price and it has been fine until this week when the keyboard no longer works. I have changed the keyboard which is easy to do but no difference. I suspect this is a hardware problem as I cannot even get to the BIOS.
The laptop is newish manufactured in 2012 and so I would hope it to last more than 2 years, I paid over £200 it is not a cheap laptop.
I have contacted Acer quoting the SOGA with which they replied "it is outside warranty and we are the manufacturer"
I cannot go to the original shop since I do not know who they are and the ebay seller is not replying to emails as yet.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
My PayPal is linked to my American express card do I contact them or Paypal?
Thank you for any help:)

If the seller doesnt reply within a week i would be inclined to start a paypal dispute, my pal did this once and it went in her favour0

How long do you get with a Paypal dispute it has been over 5 months.0
-
You get 180 days for a paypal dispute, so plenty of time.0

Was the seller a business or a private seller?
To be honest, if I had been the seller (as a private seller), I wouldn't offer a refund. You've had the laptop for 5 months and who knows what kind of treatment the laptop has had. At the end of the day, electronics fail from time to time and it's hardly the sellers fault.
If the seller was a business seller, it's a different story as the sales of goods act would apply (which doesn't if the seller is a private individual).0 -
You also have to factor in the fact that you've altered the laptop, dismantled it removing and replacing parts. Had the laptop been in warranty changing the keyboard would have voided it anyway. As you've replaced the keyboard you can no longer return the laptop to the seller in its original condition.0

This is exactly why I as a private seller no longer sell on ebay, it is not reasonable for a private seller to effectivly give a 6 month "guarantee" on used items.
In this case you had 45days for a paypal claim. the 180days did not come into force until 17th june 2014,0 -
Please don't assume I am trying to con the ebay seller here, changing the keyboard is simple with 4 push tabs to remove it, I have not opened the laptop or changed anything inside. The laptop is not used very often and looks like new. I expect this is a manufacturing fault.
I have contacted the seller to ask for the details of where they got it in order to make a claim from that seller. I do not expect my seller to cover a laptop for 6 months, but if Acer have turned out poor quality laptops I cannot afford to foot the bill anymore than you could.0 -

You are correct, it didn't come into force per say for Paypal until June, but, I had a claim from prior to that date, outside of the then current rules. Paypal adapts. Not always according to it's own policy.
Chargebacks on Paypal with some CC companies can be made up to 6 years from purchase.0 -
Where are you getting 180 days from?
PayPal's own Buyer Protection page states 45 days.
The only reference to 180 days is for a CC chargeback.0 -

It doesn't matter in the least where your seller obtained the laptop from originally as you have no legal rights against either the manufacturer or the original seller.
The only rights that you may have are with the person you bought the laptop from and what determines these rights was the status of that seller when you made the purchase. You haven't stated whether they were selling as a business or as a private individual and this is a very important bit of information.
You should really read up on your rights and a sellers obligations before proceeding further as Acer were totally correct when they stated that:
You didn't buy from Acer, hence no SOGA rights against them."it is outside warranty and we are the manufacturer".0
