Did you 1471 the number?
Yeah in all fairness it triggered with youngest first that's why he came in to me.
Yes I googled it but it didn't give me any clues as to where it came from.
'Youngest' went to the Job Centre to report it as it was on the Job Centres vacancy website. They weren't surprised, its happened quite often apparently. They obviously don't check the jobs as they come in.
The bank has checked for unauthorised transactions but have reiterated what I had already said, the fraudsters cant do anything with his account number and sort code.
Eldest daughter is so much better today. 'Yay' she said 'it no longer hurts when I breathe'.
Eldest son is still off the booze and still with his girlfriend. She was gushing with undying affection for him on Facebook earlier on.... so pleased.
Managed to scalp one of the dogs. Well it was meant to be a trim but I chopped off more than I intended to. I shall work on 'Bear' tomorrow as its an all day job with her.
Quite an eventful day considering ive done nothing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Afternoon all,
TTFM, good luck for your husband.
Judi, how horrible, glad your son realised before giving out card details.
Busiscoming, oh my! Glad you are ok, and your son escaped with grazed hands.
Hope all who are unwell and/or feeling down feel brighter soon.
Been an up and down day today. Had a diabetes education class first thing which was very interesting. Then had a day at home where there is plenty to do but I have no get up and go.
Will work on a plan tonight so I can get going tomorrow. Need to use up contents of the freezers and pantry as hope to be selling our house in late November. Also, wish to make a start on packing up non essentials, as have a horror of not being ready in time.
Take care all.

Well its been an eventful morning for 'Youngest'. He applied for a number of jobs yesterday and got a phone call this morning. I could hear him nattering away. It was for an interview so I thought. They ran through some details with him.... Name, age, forms of ID, what bank he was with.... I could hear muttering.... sort code, bank account number then 'Youngest' came into me and said "Mom they want the long number across my debit card". I told him you only give that if your buying stuff, no employer would need that number to pay money into your account.... plus the fact he hadn't even been interviewed yet.
The phone call was terminated by my son pretty damned quick. I told him they couldn't take any money from his account with just his sort code and account number but he's gone to the bank, just to make sure.
Thieving sods, preying on the weak and vunerable who are out of work....I'll see what the bank says when he gets back.
Judi, I know your son has been to the bank and what they've told him, but I disagree. With his sort code and account number they could set up direct debits. With the info he has given him they probably have his name and address, possibly his date of birth. They could therefore easily contact the bank claiming to be him and saying they have moved address and lost their card, and ask the bank to send a card out to the new address.
I work in fraud (am a police officer) so just wanted to let you know this. Your son (or you on his behalf) need to report this to action fraud http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ as police don't take direct reports of fraud any more with a few exceptions. I would also get him to get back on to the bank to make sure that no changes are made to the account without the bank directly contacting him first. To be honest, if it isn't too much hassle for him, I would consider opening a new account and closing that one down.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.0 -
Had a nice day with DD and it was lovely just for the two of us to be nattering and mooching, we did some shopping ,had some lunch and she changed my bed for me and hung the stuff on the airer to dry before she went home She also put some new light bulbs in for me as the four on the long rod in my computer room had all expired and I had no light at all in there. I live in an old house and the ceilings are 8'6" tall and as I am only 5'4" even when I'm well I can't reach them She takes after my late OH and is a 5'8" height so on a stool she can change them without any problem at all.I am one of those little old biddies in the supermarket that needs tall folk to get stuff down for me
:):)
A very nice pleasant day all round and I'm now going to put my feet up and relax with a cuppa
have a good evening everyone

Evening all
Thanks for all the good wishes for hubby's feet, Candlelight, if I wore a nurses uniform it would certainly take hubby's mind off his toes. I went to learn how to to dress the toes this afternoon, they aren't exactly a thing of beauty, but neither are they so horrific that I needed to faint. He say's they are sore, but not agony so he's not taking any more pain killers.
LW, glad to hear about the Parsons, my BIL used to have one.
Judi, glad DD is on the mend.
Have a good evening everyone.

Evening all.
Sorry to hear of illness disturbing various people...think that its the cold, supposed to have been 13 here earlier but feels much colder, have turned on the heat for an hour.
All still up in the air about my hip.....hope that I will have some definite news by the end of the week as it is very painful these days.
My father died 20 years ago in the room I am sitting in....I still miss him greatly, we fought most of the time, but loved each other very much.
Phone is acting up, have been trying to get through to my oldest friends but no luck, cant find her land line number, she is not answering her mobile and doesn't do email.....!
Spoke to my brother who had surgery in Germany yesterday....some new type of treatment which seems to have worked, will be happy when I see him on Saturday, cant stop thinking of him as a child, even though he will be 61 next month
Going back to the fire as heating is taking its time to heat up.
Best wishes for recovery, good luck for interviews and new jobs, stay well and safe

Marie I'm here online and just saw your message.
Sorry your hip is so painful, and the cold won't help. Do you have some blankets and a hot water bottle? I hope you have some good painkillers too.
I'm sure your dad is watching over you and sending you his love. I hope it is comforting rather than sad to be in that room.
If you can't get through to your friend, do you have something to read or watch on tv?
Thinking of you - big hugs xx0 -
Ladyshopper. Thank you so much for your information. I think another trip to the bank is in order.
No problem at all. Its the kind of thing I deal with day in, day out, and I think the bank were pretty rubbish with the information they gave to your son to be honest. There is so much people can do with name/address/date of birth and sort code/account number, its quite scary.
Escalate with the bank asap, and also get your son to check his credit report in a couple of weeks, and do so regularly (I think you can sign up to a lot of them for free trials). Identity theft is something that happens often, and things like obtaining mobile phone contracts, loans etc can all be done with the info he appears to have provided.
At work we also advise people to consider joining CIFAS:
https://www.cifas.org.uk/pr_for_individuals
There is a cost, but its a great service, and basically make sure that extra checks are carried out for anything that is applied for in the members name to ensure it is them.0
