O/S Daily Thread Wednesday 15th October

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Very tired this morning as not much sleep. Entirely self inflicted as we had a takeaway curry and it was far too late. I still feel like it's sitting in a lump and saying "You should not spend money on stuff you do not need!" :o

Good news is that DH has an interview tomorrow. He's not 100% convinced it's the job for him or even that he has a chance but he says it proves he can still get interviews, so we are both delighted and what will be, will be.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a lovely day.

  • Morning all
    Good luck to Mr TTFM.
Thanks Tru, he's having the dressings changed today & then it's up to me to change them.
I've had breakfast, hubby's had a cuppa, he's allowed up & about today but I'll make him some scrambled egg before I go to work & I'll make him some sandwiches & put them in the fridge. I'm going to work for an hour & then coming home to take him to have his dressings changed.
LW I hope you have a furry visitor to keep you company, Molly did you get the situation resolved with your dad?
Hugs to all those in need, so many at the moment.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning all,

I don't know what the weather is like because it is still dark, but it certainly isn't as cold as yesterday thank goodness.

The car has to go into the garage today but shouldn't take too long. Have some washing to do and just a tidy up.

The braised steak we had last night was lovely, real comfort food with lots of mashed potato.

TTFTM lots of luck to your DH, to even have an interview these days is good, isn't it.

HESTER do you have a Nurse's outfit to wear whilst ministering to your L&M? :) I don't envy you having to change the dressings, poor man must be in agony.

MOLLY I too hope things have been sorted regarding your Dad's visitors.

    Hugs to all poorlies

    Have a good day

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, but DS said as he left for work, it’s damp underfoot but not raining at the moment, but now looks as if it’s going to start raining any moment.

DH up and gone to work early, but not stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was an easy fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had fish, rice and veg. Yesterday afternoon, the boys went to the SM to get some fresh bread, milk and a couple of big baking potatoes for me, when they got home they didn’t have the potatoes! So I had rice with my fish instead, was nice but I do love my baked potatoes. Remembered to get the chicken breasts out to defrost, so tonight dinner will be chicken in a white wine and cream sauce, with rice.

Hairdresser visited last night so we all look decent again.

I have placed an on-line food order to be delivered tomorrow afternoon, and I need to amend that so will do that shortly.

Feeling brighter, and a bit more motivated, so will be trying to do some ironing sitting on the edge of our bed, the washing is not too difficult to do, it’s the getting it dry and ironed which is difficult, but today I’m going to give it a go, even if I can only do a short time of ironing, then leave it and go back, but can only do it sitting down.

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Not quite as cold here today and not raining atm, off to work for me and a busy day ahead.

Need to get something out of the freezer for dinner but not sure what, might get the chicken breasts out and do a curry.

Will need to do a wash tonight and get it on airer, finding it a bit difficult to get it dry atm with no heating on yet but the dehumidifier helps quite a bit.

Tru I meant to say well done about your job, it will all become clear I promise ! xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone.

Bit colder than before here, certainly colder than yesterday. Slept til now but was awake a lot longer than is good for me, just couldn't nod off so just lay in bed with radio playing. Outlasted 'comedy controller' on Radio 4 Extra which is not a good thing.

Today I have got piles of cardboard to take to the tip. It's been in the barn for months but I want it cleared so I can put my car in. There's lots of moving cows and sheep between fields and my car is in danger of being bashed by cows.

Grass was given a final cut yesterday so that's done. Bought a little Vax vacuum which is really light but with great suction, it's good for downstairs.

Right, have to wander up the lane to get some eggs from the farmer. REALLY want to get back into low carb eating which was so good for me. Then some more reading and knitting today.

Hope everyone is doing well or better.

    Happy Wednesday.

    Hi everyone,

TTFTM, fingers crossed for your DH. Hester, ouch, hope it's not too painful for him.

I had a very down day yesterday after a terrible night's sleep and didn't post. Hopefully feeling a bit better today.

I had a phone call from the person who took on my job asking if I'd go in to help out for a few weeks because she's at her wits end with staff leaving and being off sick. I said I'd go in and talk about it but she made it plain that I could set my own hours and choose what I want to do so I will probably do it. It will give me a bit extra for the C-word if I do.

    Have a good day.

Good Morning all, grey and grotty looking outside at the moment. Bit nippy as well so I have succumbed and the heating is on for an hour.Once warm, my little house stays warm all day.Youngest Dd has the day off today and is taking me to get some food shopping and will change my bed for me as I am still not able to do very much Grrr.
Tomorrow my sis-in-law is coming with my niece who is in England visiting from her home in Mexico so I'm really looking forward to that.

I saw my consultant on Monday and the stitches are to be kept in for another week and I see him again next Tuesday.Taking ages to heal this time, and I'm back on strong anti-biotics for another week.
Still it'll be worth it eventually I suppose, just itching to be up and about again. My friend came from Dartford yesterday and it was lovely to sit and chat,we went out for lunch which was lovely but I get very tired quite quickly so was glad to get back home again and put my feet up for awhile.
Not doing much cooking at all at the moment ,but the freezer is still packed full of stuff.
Hope everyone is OK and coping with they grey grotty weather
Thats all my typing done now for a day or so as its a one finger jobbie and takes me ages :):):)
    Cheers chums onwards and upwards

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Another one here who can't sleep at the mo, two nights on the trot I've woken between 2am and 3am and can't get back off to sleep. It's so frustrating when your body demands rest but your brain is fizzing and popping. I have stopped one of my meds so I think that is probably the cause but it was starting to poison my body and brain so I'm knocking it on the head.

It's just started raining pouring here and it's gone really dark so I can hardly see the keyboard to type! I wanted to say congrats to TTFTM's OH for his interview tomorrow. Will keep everything crossed that it is successful. And poor Hester's OH, it sounds really painful, I'm sure you will be a great nurse though:). Snoozer - great news about earning some extra money for Christmas too.

Today I will be cooking faggots, I will probably make faggoty pea stew with them as it stretches the meat and my fussy DD13 can have pasta instead. I have loads of washing to catch up on as things have slipped for the past few days. I will try to get one of the girls to run the hoover round when they come home from school and I will do a general tidy up.

Well, that's all my waffle for today, hope everyone manages to have a great day and catches up on their sleep tonight. Take care xx
