Words Fail Me!

Just thought I'd share this charming message received this morning from somebody who bought an out of print book from me for £7.99 with free postage over the weekend:

"This 'book' which is tiny, is priced on the back as £2.50. Before I leave negative feedback, could you please tell me why your mark-up is so high????"

Funny, but I have absolutely no recollection of twisting his arm up his back to force him to click 'buy it now'.:rotfl:

I replied politely, suggesting he did a completed items search, where he would find that the price he'd paid was average for the item concerned, and indeed one identical item had sold recently for (shock , horror!) £10 plus £3 postage!

I had that more than once when I sold books for a living on Amazon. I really couldn't believe people could be that dense.

Luckily when I did get bad feedback Amazon removed it, I would hope (but wouldn't hold my breath) that ebay would do the same.

  • I would have been tempted to reply with something such as

    "Dear buyer,
    This piece of paper:
    http://www.stanleygibbons.com/stanleygibbons/view/product/sgproductcatalog/10548/10648/10549/10551/SG1032583
is also tiny and it is priced on the front as "one penny", yet it is being sold for £325.
Why do you think it is more expensive than the original price?"

You could also have linked him to an economics textbook that explains supply and demand
  • Unbelievable. He's now left neutral feedback.

I think this might be classed as extorting by threatening bad feedback, which is against EBay rules.

It's good that they are going to remove the feedback :T

Make sure they get rid of the feedback and not just the comment. Otherwise you will still have a defect.

    Yep, all done.

Just had this follow up email from eBay - rather more touchy feely than their usual slapdash CS levels, I thought.

    Hello xxxx,

My name is Daniel, one of eBay's Customer Service Managers. I am writing to you regarding your request to remove the feedback you received from xxxxxx.

This is just a follow-up email to ensure that your concern has been resolved by agent via Chat. I’ve checked our records and I can confirm that the neutral feedback has now been removed from your account. We have now resolved the issue that you raised.

I’m really impressed with the number of positive feedback you’ve received from your trading partners that's why we did this for you. It only show how responsible an account holder you are. It also shows that you are really putting into your honest effort in order to comply with eBay’s policies and maintain a good reputation on your account.

By the way, I would greatly appreciate it if you could take a few moments to respond to the eBay survey should you received one to let us know what you think about the service you received.

We value you as a member and take your concerns with urgency to resolve your issue. Feel free always to contact us again if you have questions.

    Thank you for choosing eBay.

    Kind regards,

    Daniel
    eBay Customer Service Manager
