Got any nice plans for the weekend mimi? :)

Hi Claire. How are you love?

No plans for the weekend. Just getting prepared for work on Monday. How sad. I know.

How about you? You off out dancing or doing anything special? :A

Actually they are if you don't work. You apply to the Council. You get priority because you are pregnant. You get temporary accommodation until they give you something permanent. The Government pay almost all of your rent (you might have to pay a few pounds each week). So the house is technically free. You obviously have to pay for electricity/water etc.

Don't get me wrong, I have no issue with people that go down that route in a genuine manner or fall on hard times. But some folk do it because they know what the end outcome will be which I think is a massive shame, but hey, who am I to judge.
I would recommend it to anyone. Its an excellent strategy.

I work in housing , long gone are the day where you get a council house just cause you are pregnant if it ever existed at all. an no priority council housing lists you get extra points which is next to none, same as people with disabilities, people who need to move due to health bla bla..
Having a baby being young or and unemployed dosent make you jump any list.
Ignore reality. There's nothing you can do about it.
    I have done reading too!

Here is a philosophical question - has anyone kept going with a one sided friendship over a long period of time?

I had a massive falling out with a friend last weekend - no idea what the real problem was but everything I did, said, thought, every suggestion I made was wrong - she is under a lot of stress so I think that is the under lying issue.
I did apologize twice but I still don't really know what I did wrong. In the end she stormed off and went home - I think she did not even want to be there in the first place.
I am very thick skinned and took no offense at what was said superficially (although its upset me all week as we have had a good relationship for years)
since then Ive heard nothing from them - this is normal though, when she is busy with work it can be weeks between phone calls or face times.

My own gang who all live far far away on the other side of the galaxy are often out of contact for long periods of time - the usual work/social life stuff but I still keep in touch with them, however busy and one sided - most days I send them funny emails and jokes, photos of the cats or the garden, recipes, links to interesting news articles etc.
I know I am only on the outside of their lives now but at least they know I am still alive and still here as and when they fancy honouring me with a phone call or a chat or even a visit

And I do the same with the friend - keep in touch as and when as I do with my own brood. Again she lives on another planet, busy job, social life etc.

It occurred to me today that maybe this row was more serious than the normal run of the mill spats and what if that is it, I wont see her again or get a response from her- maybe not even the usual Christmas, Birthdays and crisis times. She does come from a family renowned for holding life long grudges.

In the meantime I will just keep going with the usual facebook messages and emails etc and mostly carrying on as normal as if last weekend never happened.
Eventually things will cool down and she will get to the other side of whatever problem she is working through and then maybe we will get a phone call.
    Or maybe not.

It made me wonder if anyone else had kept going with a one sided relationship for years on end?

About 2 or 3 years ago, I decided to cue loose from all my one sided aka fair weather friends. I've not heard off them since unless they have had a problem and I just haven't bothered replying. I'm not the Samaritans and I never will be. And I hate it when I have been the only one instigating conversations/emails/texts.

From now on, all my friendships are 2 sided. Life it too short for me to waste time on someone that doesn't have time for me.

I would much rather be billy no mates than "I'm only your friend because you have something I want or you can console me". Fork that! Life's too short. I would rather make friends with a packets of crisps or a pizza. I do it a favour by eating it, and it does me a favour by filling my tummy for a bit. :A:A:A

Does anyone have any "people" at work who ignore you when others are there but want to talk to you when no one else is around? A woman at work did that to me a few times in my new team. I told her where she could get off. Bi£ch please. I'm not like that.

I have family like that too

And plenty of people at work who are exactly like that :(

If I left, it would be because of them. Up until I was off sick last year because of my finger, I thought we were friends. I never heard a word from them in all the time I was off. That, and certain other behaviours have made me see just how shallow they are

Really? The points scheme went out with the dinosaurs (our authority was one of the last to have changed so I know). It's banding now.

For people with severe disabilities and housing issues, they get Band A which is top priority. Young people are quite vulnerable so they get priority too as do care leavers etc.

Bye bye elite, off to stay overnight at SIL near airport before setting off to the sun tomorrow morning. Remember to look out for that mega glitch while I'm away, because it WILL happen. See you all in just over a week (iPad is going with me but don't know if I'll get the chance to keep up).
